Different people have different ideas. A part of them believe that math shouldn't be learned .While others think that they should develop maths.In my view,English majors should learn maths. Most of English learners,especially girls, are extremely scared of math. To escape this subject, they always put the reason this way: a language learner hardly uses math, so he shouldn't put much emphasis on math. However, have you ever seen an outstanding person just spending his whole days on one major? The wold-wide-known person Aristotle was famous for his knowledge. Let us image, if he have insisted on just only one subject ,his cognition and capacity are substandard.Nowadays, a great number of companies are seeking for those generalists. If we were well-done in both English and math, shouldn't it become our advantage? On the other hand, a university is not only a place for technical training but a place for entire development .Students in universities are being told for comprehensive knowledge including language, literature, philosophy, science and so on. As an undergraduate majors in English, it can be good to learning mathematics which let us more rational and wise. For English students, English may be used as an implement to earn living, but math can be treated as an entertainment that can boost the quality of life. It goes without saying that people who are proficient in both English and math should be better developed than those concentrated on English. Despite the difficulties of learning math, we should pursue the breakthroughs in our lives. English majors should study maths.参考范文2Recently, there have been some complaints about whether students who major in English should learn math or not, and this has risen to a heated discussion. Students points of view on this issue vary from one to another. For my part, I dont think our English majors should learn math in university. First and foremost,English majors will usually find a job as a translator or a English teacher.There is no need to master good mathematical knowledge because what we have learned is enough,In addition,those students who are not good at math will feel the pressure and then may lose their confidence in learning English.Besides,studying math will distract our attention from English.It is hard for us to keep a balance between the two subjects and allocate time well. I think its a waste of time for us to deal with those kinds of difficult math questions. We dont use it much either in our studies or daily life. However,teachers in math classes always teach very complicated and abstract topics, so we need to spend most of our time finishing the homework after class. Then we cant focus on our own major. In the last but not least purpose of studying math is just to get good grades on the exams, rather than use it in helping us think logically. After we pass the exam we will forget all the things we have learned in the class and wont use the knowledge ever . To sum up, I dont think it is wise for English majors to learn math in university.
