The Differences between Chinese Education and Western EducationThe Comparison of College Education between China and US Nowadays, every country pays great attention to education. Result from the idea that science and technology make the country stronger, every government invests a large deal of money on education, so does Chinese government. But with the fast development of economic, Chinese education system is still incomplete compared with western education system. The research of the differences between Chinese education and western education is beneficial for China to develop a better education system. Chinese education system is reforming. While, how to reform can take a breakthrough is very the subject. As is often the case, western children can learn happily and easily achieve success after graduation. But Chinese children usually hate learning and not willing to go to school, and even if some can achieve something in their field, they often are criticized to with no the spirit of innovation. Why western children are more likely to be succeeded? This paper will discuss it from the following three aspects: school education, family education and the influence of social environment.School EducationWestern education is a kind of trial education, allowing students try to do various experiments on their own, accumulate some experiences in the process of solving the difficulties and finally, draw the conclusion, which will really belong to his or her own. On the contrast, Chinese education is a kind of force-feeding education, telling the students what is the right answer at first, then letting the students operate exactly according to the successful experiences step-by-step.The biggest difference between the two modes is that western education focus on students. It stars from human instinct, which accord with learning theories. However, Chinese education is a kind of “production” education aimed at going straight to the right way and eliminating the wrong idea. It treats students as products, hoping that good production will be delivered in the production line instead of defective ones. It is not willing to be faced up to the regularity that learning can make mistakes. This education way will lead to student lack of creative thinking. In western country, the teachers encourage students the freedom of thoughts and being responsible for their words and deeds. Teachers usually play the role of guiding. As in classroom, they will discuss the problems that students meet during their experiments like friends. In China, it is taken for granted that the student listen to the teachers and take notes in the classroom. Never will the students doubt the correctness of the answers on the textbooks or that the teachers have given them.Family EducationWestern parents pay much attention to childrens own exercise. Instead of designing the future for their children, they value the free development of children and try their best to make them develop into a social person that can adapt to various kinds of environment and have the ability to survive in this severe society. They hope that through their family education, their children can develop a pioneering spirit and be able to rely on themselves.Many Chinese parents are over ambitious. They often ask their children to do whatever they want. However in many cases, their children can not reach what their parents want because their parents high demand is beyond their actual level. What the parents care most is study of the children. Most of them believe that if study well, everything is well. In comparison, the ability of live independently, mental health and social adaptation are ignored.When it comes to education, western parents think that happy education is of most importance. On one side, parents often discuss problems with their children. On the other side, their children are also willing to talk to their parents when they meet difficulties. The research of psychology shows that psychological health is very important for the childrens success.While in China, parents show their concern to their children basically on physiological needs, they concern little to the childrens psychological needs. In a considerable degree, this kind of education results in the childrens low psychological bear ability and the children can not afford the stress in his life.From these comparisons, we can see the contrast between western and Chinese education. There are significant differences. What western parents care is that Chinese parents ignore. Chinese parents may learn from them.Social Environmental InfluenceWhat Chinese lack most is the responsibility education. In the United States, it is common to see an adult who is doing something wrong or has some bad behaviors educates a child while the child is not the adults own kid. The Americans treat every child as their own child, and it is their responsibility to educate the child. In England, the power of a middle-aged woman is inevitable. They are always in the supervision of the behavior of young consciously, just as the police general. They think it is their duty to observe the children in their country. These two nations have already put the responsibility of educating the next generation to every citizen. Every citizen also shows his responsibility for he future of the country in caring about the children.While in China, who will treat educating the next generation as his own responsibility? If one sees an unknown child who is doing something wrong, will he go and educate him? It is very common in China that adults tend to show indifferent with unknown children. What if we change our mind and learn to care others? Because of the differences of background and economic level, college education between China and US are different. The different aspects of college education mainly include teaching model, college life and the independence capability of students.The teaching model is different between China and USA.Chinese teaching model and the reason of forming the model In China, students usually can take in the things that the teachers teach and they also can get high marks in examinations. Chinese education aims to build the foundation of education with more study and less thought. And college education is always the elite education .The students can only know the knowledge, but they do not know how to use them in practice. Why? Each national college education as economic systems reflection serves for the economy. Because Chinese economic is not so strong that the development of college education is lagging. Teaching facilities, teacher resources and other teaching condition are limited by economic. Therefore, the students can not get good study condition. In addition, traditional education model influence today s teaching model, too. In China, the student may choose the specialty according to own interest and hobby, but change of specialty in the school is not easy, and transformation of school is more difficult.B.The teaching model of US and how to form the model US is an open society. US is the biggest immigrant country which has very strong containing nature in the culture. American economy epimerizes on the practical value, matter rewards as well as individual value realization with fast development, rich material life, strong material idea and etc. In American college class, students can discuss and ask questions freely. The teacher is not just your teacher, but also your friend. In order to adapt the society, the American universities has established many specialties and curriculum of choice for students; the students choose or transform specialties and schools according to own interest and hobby. In the big campus we can study, make friends and take part in all kinds of activities. In China, college students need to take exams in the end of the term. Thus they often try their best to prepare the exams by mechanical memorizing. In normal times, some students will not work hard, they may often skip classes. Because whether you attending classes will not influence your final mark. As a result, they dont learn many things in college in four years. And they will find that it is hard to find a job after graduation, because they are lack of practice.B.American assessment system in college and its effects When American school inspects the result of student, they emphasize more on the ability to analyze and solve the question but not the ability of memory or description. Less of American students will skip classes, because their attendance rate will affect their final grade.
