learn foreign language at primary school.doc
As the developing of the whole society, more and more parents and schools begin to realize the significance for children to have the ability of speaking a foreign language. Some experts hold an opinion that it is meaningful for children to learn their foreign language at primary school instead of secondary school. I totally agree with that statement.Firstly, it is better for children to learn a second language earlier. When people are in their childhood, it could be easy for them to possess an ability of learning a new skill such as a new language. A research, which was ever published by the English scientists, suggests that children have better ability of memorizing and learning when they are really young. For example, Yang Lan, a very famous hostess in China, who speaks very fluent English. She once told her own story in a TV show, saying that her mother sent her to learn secondary language when she was at primary school, but she was unwilling to learn then, but actually, she make progress very quickly when she was young. And she credits her good English to learning English early, and thanks to her mothers wise decision. Secondly, children at primary school have more time to learn a new language than children in secondary school. Courses at primary school will be very fundamental, which is easy for children to learn. So there will be more spare time for children to do other things. Concerning children at secondary school, they have to learn more subjects than before, the load of school curriculums will squeeze their time, let alone learning another language well. For example, my 15 year-old sister is a junior high school student, you know in china, children have a great pressure in their study. My sister is so interested in French, so she take advantage of time after school to learn French, and she also have to accomplish her mathematics and science homework every night, so she learned very late until 12 o'clock. This makes my parents and I worry about her health. She also regrets not learning French when she was at primary school when she has a lot of free time.Thirdly, children who learn English earlier at primary school will behave better at secondary school than other children, therefore get higher grades. Take an example of myself. I learned English when I was at primary school, which was earlier than most of my classmates in junior high school. They just began to learn English only when they entered secondary school. So in the English final exam, obviously, I get the highest grades in my class, and my English teacher give me an award of good grades, she encouraged me to learn English better. So later I become the best one who speaks English in my class. All in all, children learn English at primary school have more advantages such as the good ability, more free time and better behavior in secondary school. So I support that parents and schools give earlier teaching to children.
