To understand some common acronyms and abbreviations that used the learned English letters and what they stand for. Teaching proceduresStep 1 Warming up & Revision1. Greet the class.2. Sing the Alphabet song to review the alphabet. 3. Point to a child. He/She says the first letter. Then point to another child. He/She says the next letter, etc. Speed up the activity as much as you can.4. Say the alphabet. Copy the missing letters.A. Ask the children to complete the alphabet by writing the missing letters in the provided blank. They can choose from the letters in the stars.B. Check answers by having the class recite the complete alphabet. When you come to a missing letter, you call a child to the front to copy it on the board.Step 2 Presentation & Practice1. Present 5 pictures, bear, cat, dog, elephant, goat. Ask the questions Whats this/ that/ it? What can you see? Elicit the answers.2. Point to the first letter and ask What letter is this? Elicit the name of the letter.3. Then ask What sound does this letter make?4. Then ask the children to find a picture whose beginning sound matches the letter.5. Tell them to draw a line to match the capital letter and small letter to the corresponding picture.6. They now trace the letters.7. Repeat this procedure with the other letters.Designing intention Always encourage the Ss to offer alternative words that begin with these letters. Praise and reward attempts to do this. The T can say Give me another word that begins with .Step 3 Consolidation & Extension1. Read aloud the letters and the sounds.2. Guess the letters. A. Game 1. Guess the letters by felling. B. Game 2. Guess the letters by actons.C. The class can now play the game in pairs.D. Move around the class offering help, praise and encouragement. 3. Game 3. Good to know. (Supplementary Resource)A. Present some abbreviations, and then ensure the Ss get the meaning of the abbreviations.B. Have Ss say more abbreviations they know.4. Sing a song: How are you?A.
