A handful of rice to eat, a gourdful of water to drink, living in a mean street. Others would have found it unendurable depressing, but to Hui's cheerfulness it made no difference at all. Incomparable indeed was Hui.【译】颜回的品质是多么高尚啊！一箪饭，一瓢水，住在简陋的小屋里，别人都忍受不了这种穷困清苦，颜回却没有改变他好学的乐趣。颜回的品质是多么高尚啊！知者乐水，仁者乐山。知者动，仁者静。知者乐，仁者寿。The wise find pleasure in water; the virtuous find pleasure in hills. In youth, when the physical powers, are not yet settled, he guards against lust. When he is strong and the physical powers are full of vigor, he guards against quarrel someness. When he is old, and the animal powers are decayed, he guards against covetousness.【译】君子有三种事情应引以为戒：年少的时候，血气还不成熟，要戒除对万事万物的诱惑；等到身体成熟了，血气方刚，要戒除与人争斗；等到老年，血气已经衰弱了，要戒除贪得无厌。唯女子与小人，为难养也。近之则不逊，远之则怨。Of all people, girls and servants are the most difficult to behave to.
