密云区高考英语阅读理解系列训练1及答案社会生活类-·卷 Sports account for a growing amount of income made on the sales of commercial time by television companies. Many television companies have used sports to attract viewers from particular sections of the general public, and then they have sold audiences to advertisers. An attraction of sport programs for the major U. S. media companies is that events are often held on Saturday and Sunday afternoonsthe slowest time periods of the week for general television viewing. Sport events are the most popular weekend programs, especially among male viewers who may not watch much television at other times during the week. This means the television networks are able to sell advertising time at relatively high prices during what normally would be dead time for programming. Media corporations also use sports to attract commercial sponsors that might take their advertising dollars elsewhere if television stations did not report certain sports. The people in the advertising departments of major corporations realize that sports attract male viewers. They also realize that most business travelers are men and that many men make family decisions on the purchases of computers, cars and life insurance. Golf and tennis are special cases for television programming. These sports attract few viewers, and the ratings (收视率) are unusually low. However, the audience for these sports is attractive to certain advertisers. It is made up of people from the highest income groups in the United States, including many lawyers and business managers. This is why television reporting of golf and tennis is sponsored by companies selling highpriced cars, business and personal computers, and holiday trips. This is also why the networks continue to carry these programs regardless of low ratings. Advertisers are willing to pay high fees to reach highincome consumers and those managers who make decisions to buy thousands of “company cars and computers. With such viewers, these programs don't need high ratings to stay on the air.41. Television sport programs on weekend afternoons _. Aresult in more sport events Bget more viewers to play sports Cmake more people interested in television Dbring more money to the television networks42. Why would weekend afternoons become dead time without sport programs? ABecause there would be few viewers. BBecause the advertisers would be off work. CBecause television programs would go slowly. DBecause viewers would pay less for watching television.43. In many families, men make decisions on _. Aholiday trips Bsports viewing Ctelevision shopping Dexpensive purchases44. Atheir advertisers are carmakers Btheir viewers are attracted by sports Ctheir advertisers target at rich people Dtheir viewers can afford expensive cars45. What is the passage mainly about? Bob started to stand up and knocked into the table, spilling his coffee over his notes. “How embarrassing! I am getting so clumsy in my old age.Everyone had a good laugh, and soon we were all telling stories of our most embarrassing moments. It came around to Frank who sat quietly listening to the others. Someone said, “Come on, Frank. Tell us your most embarrassing moment.Frank laughed and began to tell us of his childhood. “I grew up in San Pedro. My Dad was a fisherman, and he loved the sea. He had his own boat, but it was hard making a living on the sea. He worked hard and would stay out until he caught enough to feed the family. Not just enough for our family, but also for his Mom and Dad and the other kids that were still at home.He looked at us and said, “I wish you could have met my Dad. He was a big man, and he was strong from pulling the nets and fighting the seas for his catch. When you got close to him, he smelled like the ocean. He would wear his old canvas, foul-weather coat and his bibbed overalls. His rain hat would be pulled down over his brow. No matter how much my mother washed them, they would still smell of the sea and of fish.Franks voice dropped a bit. “When the weather was bad he would drive me to school. He had this old truck that he used in his fishing business. That truck was older than he was. It would wheeze and rattle down the road. You could hear it coming for blocks. As he would drive toward the school, I would shrink (畏缩) down into the seat hoping to disappear. Half the time, he would slam to a stop and the old truck would belch (喷出) a cloud of smoke. He would pull right up in front, and it seemed like everybody would be standing around and watching. Then he would lean over and give me a big kiss on the cheek and tell me to be a good boy. It was so embarrassing for me. Here, I was twelve years old, and my Dad would lean over and kiss me goodbye! He paused and then went on, “I remember the day I decided I was too old for a goodbye kiss. When we got to the school and came to a stop, he had his usual big smile. He started to lean toward me, but I put my hand up and said, “No, Dad. It was the first time I had ever talked to him that way, and he had this surprised look on his face. I said, “Dad, Im too old for a goodbye kiss. Im too old for any kind of kiss. My Dad looked at me for the longest time, and his eyes started to tear up. Then he turned and looked out the windshield. “ Youre right, he said. “ You are a big boy.a man. I wont kiss you anymore.Frank got a funny look on his face, and the tears began to well up in his eyes, as he spoke. “It wasnt long after that when my Dad went to sea and never came back. It was a day when most of the fleet (船队) stayed in, but not Dad. He had a big family to feed. They found his boat adrift with its nets half in and half out. He must have gotten into a strong wind and was trying to save the nets and the floats.I looked at Frank and saw that tears were running down his cheeks. Frank spoke again. “Guys, you dont know what I would give to have my Dad give me just one more kiss on the cheekto feel his rough old face to smell the ocean on him to feel his arm around my neck. I wish I had been a man then. If I had been a man, I would never have told my Dad I was too old for a goodbye kiss.16. Fathers Embarrassment参考答案 16-20 ABDBC*结束 The rising costs of health care have become a problem for many countries in the world. To deal with this problem, it is recommended that a big part of the government's health budget be used for health education and disease prevention instead of treatment. Actually, many kinds of diseases are preventable in many ways and preventing a disease is usually much cheaper than treating it. For example, people could avoid catching a cold if they dressed warmly when the weather starts getting cold. But many people get sick because they fail to do so, and have to spend money seeing a doctor.Daily habits like eating more healthy food would have kept millions of families from becoming bankrupt if the patients had taken measures for early prevention. For instance, keeping a balanced diet, such as not consuming too much animal fat and insuring a steady intake of vegetables and fruits, seems to be quite important. One very effective and costless way of prevention is regular exercise, which is necessary for a healthy mind and body. Regular exercise, such as running, walking, and playing sports is a good way to make people feel better or reduce stress. In addition, health education plays a key role in improving people's health. By giving people more information about health, countries could help people understand the importance of disease prevention and ways to achieve it. For example, knowing one's family medical history is an effective way to help keep healthy. Information about health problems among close relatives will make them aware of what they should do to prevent certain diseases through lifestyle changes, which will work before it is too late. However, stressing disease prevention does not mean medical treatment is unimportant. After all, prevention and treatment are just two different means toward the same effect. In conclusion, we could save money on health care and treat patients more successfully if our country spends more money on health prevention and education.6Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?CP (Central Point)P (Point)Sp (Sub-point次要点)C (Conclusion)7Which of the following can replace the underlined word “bankrupt?AStronger than ever before BMore successful than ever before CUnable to pay ones debts DUnable to be cured8We learn from the passage that .Athe more health education, the better Bdressing warmly can prevent diseasesCa balanced diet is cheaper than regular exerciseDthe governments health budget should be increased9Whats the best title of the passage?APrevention or Education? Our hearts desire is to give and receive love in relationships that make us feel that even if others disagree with what we do or say, they still love us, accept us, and appreciate what we give to the world. While it would be wonderful to have these types of relationships with all people, we know thats hard to do. However, we can have such relationships with some others, but only when we first have them with ourselvesand, strangely, this is often the hardest relationship of all. Do you love yourself? You may think you do, but do you really? Theres only one way to find out-by taking a close look at what you think, say, and do. You may not like some of what you find, but if you are serious about really loving yourself, you can use this insight to do some positive inner work. Herere three ways for gaining greater personal insight for deeper love:Listen Closely to Your Thoughts Your thoughts will determine your actions. One thing helping you to listen to your thoughts is keeping a journal. It is not necessary for you to write in it every day, but it helps to record various insights you gain as you go about your life. Instead of using a big notebook, you might use a small notepad that you can keep in your pocket for easy access to record your thoughts as they occur to you. Whichever method you choose, whats most important is that you write your thoughts down. It will help you know whats in your heart.Be Honest with Yourself To do this, you should pay attention to your actions. Actions speak louder than words, and they always tell the truth. If you say you love your job, but your actions say otherwise, which do you think is more reliable? On the other hand, if you say youre not good at a certain job, but your actions say otherwise, thats also important. What do you do with this insight? You can use it to make more positive choices in your life. By being honest with yourself, you will act according to truth instead of just what you tell yourself.Take Quiet Time to Listen to Your Inner Voice This is similar to the first point, but it takes a step further-beyond the natural mind to the heart that cannot be seen. You may want to use your quiet time to think deeply. However you use this time, the key is to shut out all of the noise around you by focusing deep within yourself. Breathing deeply during quiet time will also help you focus. I know its hard to find quiet time during a particularly busy day, but its so important-even if its just 10 minutes a day and you have to hide somewhere to get it. Quiet time can really make a difference in your life. Despite what your mind may be telling you, you can have love with no limits. The key is to unconditionally love yourself first.1. By looking deep into what we think, say, and do, we can _. A. know whether we really love ourselves B. appreciate what we give to the world C. realize what type of relationship we long for D. know whether we are loved and accepted by others2. An important way for gaining personal insight is to _. A. do some positive inner work B. keep a journal wherever you go C. look closely at what others say about us D. pay attention to our thoughts3.
