A Festival for the Dead is held once a year in Japan. This festival is a cheerful occasion, for on this day, the dead are said to return to their homes and they are welcomed by the living. As they are expected to be hungry after their long journey, food is laid out for them. Specially-made lanterns are hung outside each house to help the dead to find their way. All night long, people dance and sing. In the early morning, the food that had been laid out for the dead is thrown into a river or into the sea as it is considered unlucky for anyone living to eat it. In towns that are near the sea, the tiny lanterns which had been hung in the streets the night before, are placed into the water when the festival is over. Thousands of lanterns slowly drift out to sea guiding the dead on their return journey to the other world. This is a moving spectacle, for crowds of people stand on the shore watching the lanterns drifting away until they can be seen no more. A Festival for the Dead is held once a year in Japan. 定冠詞用在某些形容詞前,可用來表示某類人the dead 死人 ; the living 活著的人the poor 窮人 ; the rich 有錢人 Festival for the Dead 亡靈節 This festival is a cheerful occasion, for on this day, the dead are said to return to their homes and they are welcomed by the living. be said 據說it is said that it was said that r據說改造句子:It is said that the dead will return to their homes and they are welcomed by the living . be welcomed 被歡迎eg:Youre welcome . eg:Youre always welcome at our hose . receive a warm welcome 熱烈歡迎心歓待受、暖歓迎受give sb a cold welcome 給某人一個冷漠的歡迎As they are expected to be hungry after their long journey, food is laid out for them. expect sb to do (expect sb to be) (1) 預料.會.eg:I expect him to come soon . (2)期望 (某人)做.eg: What do toy expect to say ?你期望我說什麼? eg:Youre expected to do your duty . journey (常途陸路) 旅行a long train journey 坐火車的長途旅行a journey on foot 長時間徒步旅行make a journey take a journey 進行旅行undertake a journey go on a journey 進行旅行be away on a journey 離開去旅行、 在旅行中go on ones last journey 最後旅程、去世voyage (海上)旅行 trip 英:通常指短程的觀光旅行 ; 美:所有旅行lay out (1) 擺開、展示、擺設lay a map out on the table把地圖攤在桌子上lay out ones clothes on the bed 把衣服鋪在床上(2)設計(庭園、都市等)、編排版面 eg:This house is laid out sensibly . Specially-made lanterns are hung outside each house to help the dead to find their way. speciallymade lanterns 特製燈籠specially-made 特製的 ; man-made 人造的;人為的 home-made常裏做的, 家常的; hard-won 肩難贏來的 All night long, people dance and sing. All night long 整晚all day long (all the day) 一整天 ; day and night 日日夜夜eg:I think of you day and night . 我日夜想你day by day 逐日 In the early morning, the food that had been laid out for the dead is thrown into a river or into the sea as it is considered unlucky for anyone living to eat it. in the early morning early in the morning 一大早 In towns that are near the sea, the tiny lanterns which had been hung in the streets the night before, are placed into the water when the festival is over. Thousands of lanterns slowly drift out to sea guiding the dead on their return journey to the other world. Thousands of 成千上万hundreds of 數以百計,許多、成千上百的millions of成百萬的, 許許多多的 guide (1)向導eg:He guided the tourist party through the park. (2) 指導某人、領噵(國家、事業等) 、治理eg:He guided his new business to success . (3)v.(思想、感情等) 支配 (人)(常用被動結構) eg:He is often guided by his sense of what is fun . (4) n. 導遊eg:Can you hire a guide to show us around the city ? 你可以僱一個導遊帶我們在這個城市轉一轉?a guide to the British Museum 大英博物館簡介。 the other world 陰間for all the world 無論怎樣看都、完全絕對(強調否定) eg:I wont give up for all the world . in the world (1) 在世界上(2) 究竟 (強調疑問句) eg:What in the world happened ?究竟發生什麼事了?(3) 根本(強調否定句)eg:Shell never in the world say no . 她根本不會說不 .make the best of both worlds 左右逢源、兩面討好 This is a moving spectacle, for crowds of people stand on the shore watching the lanterns drifting away until they can be seen no more. Exercise:1. c a year is the festival held ?
