Disneyland was the brainchild of Walt Disney (1901 1966), who wanted to provide a place for families to amuse themselves. He also had the problem that many people wanted to visit Walt Disney Studios when they toured southern California, but as Walt Disney Studios at the time focused nearly entirely on making animated films and had no sound stages, costumes, or sets, there was very little to show visitors except a few men in small rooms hunched over drawing boards. After Disneyland Resort had been in operation for several years, Walt Disney realised that the area around the park did not offer enough room for further expansion to fulfill all his dreams for the park, which included a futuristic planned community. For this reason, he began building Walt Disney World Resort in Florida as a vacation destination. However, Disney died of lung cancer before it could be finished, and only part of his final dream was ever realised. Dolly wood is a theme park created and partly owned by American country singer and songwriter Dolly Parton (born in 1946), and located near Knoxville, Tennessee. Parton has written and published well over 3, 000 songs, which include many number 1 hits. In addition to being a music star herself, Parton is also an actress and popular fixture on American TV. Like many country music stars, she grew up quite poor. Her family had twelve children, all living in a one-room house. However, in the area where she grew up一eastern Tennessee一most people were poor, so when she became rich and famous she decided that she wanted to do something that would help her home community. Therefore, in 1986, she bought a small, old theme park near Knoxville and had it renamed “ Dollywood ” . With her money and fame the park was quickly able to renovate and grow. Now it is the largest employer in the area, and it brings over 3 million visitors a year to eastern Tennessee, providing a tremendous boost to the local economy. In addition to the typical theme park thrill rides, the park also serves as a kind of open-air museum, so that visitors can learn about traditional life in eastern Tennessee. And of course, Parton and her friends often put on musical concerts at Dollywood. The photo on page 32 is a replica of an old gristmill inside Dollywood. A gristmill like this uses a waterwheel to turn a large grinding stone. This stone is used to grind wheat and corn to make flour. Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Zhuhai, China was opened in 2014, and is now one of the top ten most visited theme parks in the world. In addition to having the largest aquarium in the world, the park also features animals, such as dolphins, manatees, polar bears, penguins, walruses, sea lions, otters, and stingrays, and has a fair assortment of thrill rides.Part I Read for predictions1.
