But a new study suggests they used a little rock 'n' roll. Long-ago builders could have attached wooden poles to the stones and rolled them across the sand, the scientists say.2 uTechnically, I think what they' re proposing is possible, “ physicist Daniel Bonn said.3People have long puzzled over how the Egyptians moved such huge rocks. And there's no obvious answer. On average, each of the two million big stones weighed about as much as a large pickup truck. The Egyptians somehow moved the stone blocks to the pyramid site from about one kilometer away.4The most popular view is that Egyptian workers slid the blocks along smooth paths. Many scientists suspect workers first would have put the blocks on sleds (滑板).Then they would have dragged them along paths. To make the work easier, workers may have lubricated the paths either with wet clay or with the fat from cattle. Bonn has now tested this idea by building small sleds and dragging heavy objects over sand.5Evidence from the sand supports this idea. Researchers found small amounts of fat, as well as a large amount of stone and the remains of paths.6However, physicist Joseph West thinks there might have been a simpler way, who led the new study. West said, “I was inspired while watching a television program showing how sleds might have helped with pyramid construction. I thought, 'Why don,t they just try rolling the things? ' " A square could be turned into a rough sort of wheel by attaching wooden poles to its sides, he realized. That, he notes, should make a block of stone "a lot easier to roll than a square”.7So he tried it.8He and his students tied some poles to each of four sides of a 30-kilogram stone block. That action turned the block into somewhat a wheel. Then they placed the block on the ground.9They wrapped one end of a rope around the block and pulled. The researchers found they could easily roll the block along different kinds of paths. They calculated that rolling the block required about as much force as moving it along a slippery (滑的)path.演绎法练通单句语法填空©Survivors (survive) of the accident were rushed to the nearest hospital in no time.He survived his wife by five years. If he couldn,t find his way out of the forest, there would be little chance of survival (survive).(20196 月浙江高考)Baptiste Dubanchet is biking across Europe, surviving entirely on discarded (丢弃)food.句式升级(2016/0 月浙江高考写作)After she had survived that night, she was confident that everything else would be all right.f Having survived that night, she was confident that everything else would be all right.(分 词作状语)名师指津survive表示“幸免于难”时,是及物动词,其后不需要加介词in, from等。2 . design n.设计;图案;构思vt.设计;计划;构思单句语法填空They asked me to design a poster for the campaign. She arrived just as we were leaving, but I'm not sure whether this was by accident or by design.句式升级The project, which was designed to help the students in need, didn,t work out as planned.f The project, designedto help the students in need, didn't work out as planned.(分词作 后置定语)根据汉语提示完成下面语段©Children above 12 are able to take part in skiing or other sports designed fojthem (为他6 而设计的).These exercises are designedo build up their body (目的是使他们强身健体).So they all like to do them.归纳法记牢(l)design sb. to do sth.打算让某人做某事be designed for/to do sth.旨在;打算被用来做某事(2)by design 故意地;蓄意地3 .remove vt.&vi.移动;搬开;拿走;去除;开除;免职;脱掉(衣物);消除the soil stayed slightly wet, more tree seedlings sprouted (抽芽),and the system was full of activity despite the long, hard dry spell. For Griffiths, it was only because they happened to study the drought that they could pick out the real importance of termites to the system, she points out. "The music can,t be presented today the way it was in 1908 or 1958.lt has to continue to move, because the way the world works is not the same, “ says Moran.6 Last year, Moran worked on a project that arranged Fats Waller,s music for a dance party, “just to kind of put it back in the mind that Waller is dance music as much as it is concert music, “ says Moran. "For me, it's the recontextualization. In music, where does the emotion (情 感)lie?
