What makes a gift special? Is it the price you see on the gift receipt? Or is it the look on the recipient's face when they receive it that determines the true value? What gift is worth the most? This Christmas I was debating what to give my father. My dad is a hard person to buy for because he never wants anything. I pulled out my phone to read a text message from my mom saying that we were leaving for Christmas shopping for him when I came across a message on my phone that I had locked. The message was from my father. My eyes fell on a photo of a flower taken in Wyoming, and underneath a poem by William Blake. The flower, a lone dandelion standing against the bright blue sky, inspired me. My dad had been reciting those words to me since 1 was a kid. That may even be the reason why 1 love writing. I decided that those words would be my gift to my father.I called back. I told my mom to go without me and that I already created my gift. I sent the photo of the cream-colored flower to my computer and typed the poem on top of it. As I was arranging the details another poem came to mind. The poem was written by Edgar Allan Poe; my dad recited it as much as he did the other. I typed that out as well and searched online for a background to the words of it. The poem was focused around dreaming, and after searching I found the perfect picture. The image was painted with blues and greens and purples, twisting together to create the theme and wonder of a dream. As I watched both poems passing through the printer, the white paper coloring with words that shaped my childhood, I felt that this was a gift that my father would truly appreciate.Christmas soon arrived. The minute I saw the look on my dad's face as he unwrapped those swirling black letters carefully placed in a cheap frame, I knew I had given the perfect gift.【文章大意】本文通过讲述作者如何为父亲选礼物的事情说明了一个道理,即礼物要发自内心的才是最有价值的。 P1What gift is worth the most? P2-3dad is a hard person to buy;a photo of a flower;created my gift;another poem came to mind;a gift that my father would truly appreciate. P4the look on my dad's face, the perfect gift父亲对礼物满意【信息提取】1.The idea for a special gift began to form when the author was_ A. doing shoppingB. having a debateC. reading a messageD. leaving for Wyoming2.The author's inspiration for the gift came from_ .A. a photo of a flowerB. a story about a kidC. a call from the motherD. a text about Christmas3.The underlined word "it" in Paragraph 3 refers to a poem by_ A. the fatherB. the authorC. As I watched both poems passing through the printer, the white paper coloring with words that shaped my childhood,本句是as 引导的时间状语从句, 在从句中passing through the printer,是现在分词短语做伴随状语,主句中coloring with words为the white paper 的后置定语,that shaped my childhood,是words 的定语从句。3. The minute I saw the look on my dad's face as he unwrapped those swirling black letters carefully placed in a cheap frame, I knew I had given the perfect gift.本句是the minute “一,就“的时间状语从句,在从句中含有as 引导的时间状语从句,swirling black letters carefully placed in a cheap frame,动词的现在分词和过去分词做those 的后置定语, 主句是I knew 的宾语从句。 As is reported in the newspapers, talks between the two countries are making progress. Grammar is not a set of dead rules, as has been said above. Spiders are not insects, as many people think, nor even nearly related to them. 2. as 引导限制性定语从句,主要用于the sameas(与相同),suchas(像一样),asas(与一样)。如: She knew he felt just the same as she did. Such a man with a good temper as Mr. Li is is easy to get along with. He smokes as expensive a cigarette as he can afford. I saw him as he was getting off the bus. The boy was singing a popular song as he was bicycling. As she grew older, she became less active. As she is a model teacher, she gives a good example to others. As he wasnt ready in time, we went to the cinema without him. Old as he is, he is still full of energy. Try as she may, she never succeeds. Much as I admire Mr. Wang as a poet, I dont like him as a man. Boy as he was, he was made king. 五、与其他词搭配使用构成从属连词引导从句 1. as if / as though。 It looks as if / as though it is going to snow. He looks as if / as though he had seen a ghost. He talks as if /as though he knew everything about it. 2. as so long as。 As So long as you can keep away from them, you will be safe. 5
