Why do you think he or she is your best friend?What do you think is the most important quality in your best friend?Section 2: While-reading1. Get students to skim the two letters and answer the following questions:(1) What are the secret and the lie in Sarahs letter?(2)What brought friendship into trouble in Andrews letter? 2.Get students to scan Sarahs letter and answer the following questions and understand Sarahs feelings.(1) What did Sarah say after the math quiz?(2)What does the note on her desk suggest?(3)Why didnt Sarah believe Hannahs explanation?3.Get students to discuss who let out Sarahs secret to prepare them to give advice.4.Get students to scan Andrews letter and answer the following questions:(1)Why did Matthew get annoyed at Andrew after the match?(2)What did Matthew think about losing the match?(3) What kind of boy is Matthew and how does he look now?5.Have students read what Andrew says in the letter to understand his feelings.(1)I feel really guilty because I made some cruel remarks too, but I dislike seeing our team lose. (2)Since we argued, he hasnt spoken to me even though we sit next to each other in class.(3)He is usually cheerful and outgoing, but he has been really quiet and looks sad.(4)I cannot help wondering if he wants Peter to be his best friend instead of me.6.Get students to imagine themselves to be Mathew and think about what they would say to Andrew in preparation for giving advice.7.Get students to give Sarah and Andrew some advice on how to solve their problems. Students work individually first and then present the advice they give to the whole class.8.Get students to finish Part E and read aloud Annies advice for Sarah and Hannah.Section 3: Post-reading1. Get students to discuss in groups how to avoid falling out with a friend.2. Ask Ss to write a short passage after class about how to strengthen friendship with no less than 150 words, using Sarahs or Andrews experience as an example to illustrate their points.
