I was blind, but I was ashamed of it if it was known. I refused to use a white stick and hated asking for help. After all, I was a teenage girl, and I couldnt bear people to look at me and think I was not like them. I must have been a terrible danger on the roads. Coming across me wandering through the traffic, motorists probably would have to step rapidly on their brakes. Apart from that, there were all sorts of disasters that used to occur on the way to and from work. One evening, I got off the bus about halfway home where I had to change buses, and as usual I ran into something. “Im awfully sorry,” I said and stepped forward only to run into it again. When it happened a third time, I realized I had been apologizing to a lamppost. This was just one of the stupid things that constantly happened to me. So I carried on and found the bust stop, which was a request stop, where the bus wouldnt stop unless passengers wanted to get on or off. No one else was there and I had to try to guess if the bus had arrived.Generally in this situation, because I hated showing I was blind by asking for help, I tried to guess at the sound. Sometimes I would stop a big lorry and stand there feeling stupid as it drew away. In the end, I usually managed to swallow my pride and ask someone at the stop for help. But on this particular evening no one joined me at the stop; it seemed that everyone had suddenly decided not to travel by bus. Of course I heard plenty of buses pass, or I thought I did. But because I had given up stopping them for fear of making a fool of myself, I let them all go by. I stood there alone for half an hour without stopping one. Then I gave up. P1was ashamed of it;refused to use a white stick and hated asking for help;must have been a terrible danger on the roads看不见东西,但不愿求助,成为马路上的威胁第二部分P2-3apologizing to a lamppost;had to try to guess if the bus had arrived; Then I gave up. Finally the girl decided to walk to the next stop, hoping _.A. to find people thereB. to find more buses thereC. to find the bus by herself thereD. to find people more helpful there【解析】1.【答案】A【试题解析】由本文第一句(I was blind, but I was ashamed of it if it was known.) (When it happened a third time, I realized I had been apologizing to a lamppost)可知。 But because I had given up stopping them for fear of making a fool of myself, I let them all go by. I stood there alone for half an hour without stopping one. Sometimes I would stop a big lorry可知,靠声音来判断有时是靠不住的。 I had given up stopping them for fear of making a fool of myself可知,她本人不想拦车了,又由managed to swallow my pride and ask someone at the stop for help可知,她是决定找人帮忙了,而在本站没有人,去下一站当然就是希望在那里可以找到人帮忙.故选A项。 She was deeply ashamed of her behaviour at the party. Peter ought to be ashamed of himself. Of course he would be ashamed to borrow often. 2. wander vt. He was constraining his mind not to wander from the task. Don't let your mind wander be woolgathering while working. Nomadic tribes wander these deserts. 3. run into(使)碰撞He has run into trouble in his job. The ship has to run into the harbor when the sudden storm arises. 4. apologize vi.道歉,认错; 辩解Why should I apologize? It was galling to have to apologize to a man she hated. We apologize for the delay and regret any inconvenience it may have caused. But because I had given up stopping them for fear of making a fool of myself, I let them all go by.【句意】但是因为害怕别人说我傻我放弃了喊车停下来,我让它们都过去了。 【语法点滴】原因状语从句引导原因状语从句的连词:because(因为);as(由于);since,nowthat(既然);seeingthat(鉴于)等。()because,since,as都可表示“因为”。 I do it because I like it. Since no one is against it,lets carry out the plan. As he wast ready in time,we went without him. The days are short, for it is now December. ()部分表示感情的状态形容词(如sorry,glad,pleased等)有时可接一个that引导的从句表示原因,作状语从句(但也有人认为是宾语从句):I am sorry that I have caused so much trouble. 4
