Kenya is a country in East Africa and is well known for its national park. The park's large wildlife population includes lions, zebras and many other species. Though many efforts have been made to protect lions in the area, when lions kill off local livestock(牲畜), some residents respond by killing the big cats.Lions are the top tourist attraction to Kenya, especially in the Nairobi National Park, which is near where Richard, a 15-year-old teen, lives. Lions are also considered critically endangered in Kenya. One of the main causes of their death, "is that people kill them for lions attacking their livestock", says Paula Kahumbu, director of Wildlife Direct. She monitored over 50 cases where lions attacked livestock. "It's a very, very serious problem", She says. One night Rechard was walking around with a flashlight and discovered the lions were scared of a moving light. A light went on inside him and an idea was born. Three weeks later, Richard invented a system of lights that flashed around the cows, mimicking(模仿)a human walking around with a flashlight. His system is made from broken flashlight parts, and an indicator box(指示灯盒)from a motorcycle. "The only thing I bought was a solar panel(太阳能电池板)", Richard says. He calls the system Lion Lights. "There have been a lot of efforts to try to protect the lions", Kahumbu says. "It's a crisis and everyone is looking for a solution. One idea was land leases; another was lion-proof fences. And basically, no one even knew that Richard had already come up with something that worked."His simple solution was so successful. His neighbors heard about it and wanted Lion Lights too. The lights spread and are now being used all around Kenya. Someone in India is trying them out for tigers. Pandas are not only a national treasure, but are loved around the world. The furry black-and-white animals have played an important role in the country's diplomacy(外交), known as "panda diplomacy".According to the Japanese Royal Annual, the practice dates back to the Tang Dynasty, when Empress Wu Zetian sent a pair of pandas to the Japanese emperor.China revived(恢复)panda diplomacy in the 1950s when China sent two pandas to the Moscow Zoo. By 1982, China had given 23 pandas to nine different countries. However, most of them have died. China stopped giving away pandas in the early 1980s. Instead, the animals are lent to other countries. In general, they are to be returned to China after 10 years. But why do these cute "diplomats" find it hard to survive in other countries? According to Xinhua, their dietary habit is one significant reason. Their nutrition mostly comes from bamboo shoots. Adult giant pandas consume about 40 kilograms of bamboo daily. Pandas can also be quite picky. They refuse to eat bamboo shoots after they have blossomed(开花).It takes 10 years for a new crop of bamboo to mature, and many countries do not have an environment suitable for bamboo growth. This means that food has to be imported(进口). In August, Calgary Zoo in Canada announced that due to pandemic-related changes in its import laws, they couldn't provide enough fresh bamboo for pandas. This meant that they had to send two giant pandas back to China. But countries are still trying their best to facilitate this special type of diplomacy. "We don't own the pandas, but the whole world wants to help save the panda, and we do that through our knowledge exchange," Steven Monfort, director of the Smithsonian's National Zoo, told China Daily. (1)What do we know about the "panda diplomacy"?A.Giving away pandas started in the early 1980s.B.The practice dates back to the Tang Dynasty, when Wu Zetian sent pandas to Japan.C.The pandas lent to other countries live very well.D.The "panda diplomacy" has never played an important role in the world. (2)Why is it difficult for the pandas to survive in other countries?A.Their eating habitfeeding on bamboois a very important reason.B.The pandas can't get used to the new environment.C.The foreigners don't like the pandas.D.The pandas are only Chinese treasure. (3)What does the underlined word in Paragraph 4 mean?A.strangeB.naughtyC.choosyD.lovely (4)Why were the pandas in Canada sent back to China?A.Because the pandas were in Canada for 10 years.B.Because the relationship between China and Canada was worsening.C.Because Canada wanted to help save the pandas.D.Because Calgary Zoo couldn't offer enough fresh bamboo to pandas.二、七选五  根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。How to Have a Successful Teenage LifeEveryone wants to succeed in their life, don't they?(1)_.
