A month before my first marathon,  one of my ankles was injured and this meant not running for two weeks,  leaving me only two weeks to train. Yet,  I was determined to go ahead.    I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E. class,  the teacher required us to run laps(圆圈) and then hit a softball. I didn't do either well. He later told me that I was "not athletic".    The idea that I was "not athletic" stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself,  not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of wills!    The night before my marathon, I dreamed that I couldn't even find the finish line. I woke up sweating and nervous,  but ready to prove something to myself.    Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces(鞋带)became untied. So I stopped to readjust(重新调整). Not the start I wanted!    At mile 3,  I passed a sign: "GO FOR IT,  RUNNERS!"    By mile 17,  I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Although my ankle was very painful,  I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.    By mile 21,  I was so hungry!    As I came to mile 23,  I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m. or questioned my expenses on running.    I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact,  I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had.    Determined to be myself,  move forward,  free of shame and worldly labels(世俗标签), I can now call myself a "marathon winner". (1)How did he author feel a month before the marathon?_A. Anxious.B. Frightened.C. Well prepared.D. Confident. (2)Why did the author mention the P.E. class in his 7th year?_A. One of our biggest problems many of us feel is having too much to do and not feeling like we have enough time to do it.Of course, having "not enough time" is just a feeling. The fact is that we all have the same amount of time, but we often fill up the container(容器)of our days with too many things. The problem is having too many things to fit into a small container(24 hours). If we look at task and time management simply as a container organization problem, it becomes simpler. How do we fit all of the things we have to do into our small container? We do that by simplifying what we have to do.Pay attention to all the things you should do today and tomorrow, and try to notice all the things you're fitting into the container of your day. What games are you playing on your phone? What are you reading? What work are you busy doing? How much time are you spending on Facebook of Twitter? How much TV are you watching? How much time do you spend cleaning, taking care of other people? What you might realize is that you're fitting a lot of junk into the container. Throw some of that out. Prevent yourself from using certain sites or apps until you've done a few really important tasks. Now ask yourself this: Which task would you do if you could only do one task today? That should be what you put your focus on next. So just focus on one important task. By picking your tasks carefully, you're taking care of the container of your time. You can pick important tasks or joyful ones, but you're being conscious(意识到的)about the choices. You're treating it like the gift of great value, for it is limited, valuable, to be filled with the best things, but not overstuffed. (1)How can we deal with the big problem mentioned at the beginning of the text?A. By filling up our days with too many things.B. By simplifying everything we have to do.C. By having a bigger container of our days.D. By improving our skills of doing tasks. (2)Why does the author ask many questions in Para.5?A. To prove that many people are enjoying playing games.B. To help us learn the importance of balancing work and life.C. To show there are many things which are not worth doing.D. To tell us that there are no really important tasks to do. (3)What should we do to spend our days more meaningfully?A. Learn what the container of our days is.B. Prevent ourselves from feeling time is not enough.C. Try our best to do as many things as we can.D. Focus on something that is really important. (4)What can we learn from the text?A. First things first.B. Easier said than done.C. Practice makes perfect.D. Don't put all your eggs into one basket. 4.     While the start of a new school year is always exciting, this year was even more so for some primary school students in Auckland,New Zealand. They became the world's first kids to be "taught" by a digital(数码的)teacher,Siri. Before you start imagining a human-like robot walking around the classroom,Siri is just an avatar(化身)that turns up on the students' desktop, tablet, or smart phone screen when called.       Thanks to a web cam(网络摄像头) and microphone, the avatar not only answer the questions the kids may have, but also picks up non-verbal signals(无声信号). For example,if a student smiles at Siri, he will smile back. This two-way interaction not only helps draw the students' attention, but also allows the program's developers to monitor their engagement(参与) and make changes if needed.       Vector's Chief Digital Officer,Nikhil Ravishankar believes that Siri-like avatars could be a new way to attract the attention of the next generation. He says,"Using a digital human is a very popular method to send new information to people, and I have a lot of hope in this technology as a way to offer rich and educational experience in the futures." Greg Cross, the Chief Business Officer for Soul Machines, states that kids who have grown up in this digital time adapt(适应) to new technology quickly, and he hopes to develop the idea of digital humans in the area of education further.       The program,in place since August 2018,  has been a great success so far. However,no matter how popular it becomes,Siri is unlikely to replace human educators any time soon. For one,the avatar's knowledge base is severely limited. But more importantly, even the smartest digital avatars could never predict(预测)and react to all the unexpected situations that educators have to deal with on a daily basis. However, it could come in handy as a "personal teacher",  providing kids with one-on-one help on certain subjects or even topics. (1)What is mentioned about Will in the first paragraph?_A. He is a human-like robot teacher.B. He is the first robot teacher in the world.C. He is a digital teacher teaching in the school.D. He will walk across the classroom to you when called. (2)In what way does the digital teacher help the students?_A. By taking part in discussion.B. By changing teaching methods.C. By communicating with students.D. By monitoring students' behavior. (3)What is the benefit of this two-way interaction?_A. It can smile back.B. It can use microphone.C. It can change if necessary.D. It can talk any topic for free. (4)What can be inferred about the digital teacher from the last paragraph?_A. It has entered many homes as kids' private teacher.B. It will teach in class in place of human educators.C. It's good at dealing with unexpected situations.D. It remains to be improved.第二节 (共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。  How to fit in with a new environment    When you step into a new environment, you must have a strong wish to fit in. Fitting in means making more friends, having more influence on others and getting more chances to live a happier life.(1)_    Be confident. Confidence attracts most people. Everyone is special and there is only one person like you in this world. Spend some time thinking about your strong points.(2)_You won't have much difficulty fitting in.    Be kind to everyone. Kindness is the bridge to your own happiness. When people notice your kindness, they will return it one day. Always give more than you receive, and think more of others than of yourself.(3)_    (4)_Kinds of activities like playing football can help you to be known to others. You may add more friends to your circle. At the same time, you'll be amazed to see how much they like you. Instead of wasting time being alone, go out to dance and sing together with others to develop friendship.    Be optimistic. Optimism makes both you and others feel happy. (5)_Humor catches others' attention as well. People will like you for making them live happily.    If you follow what is mentioned above, you will be accepted by people around you. As a result, you will fit in very well and enjoy your new life.A. Be active in group activities.B. A pleasant smile costs the least and does the most.C. Here are some tips that can help you.D. If so, you will be able to build up confidence step by step.E. A person who cares for others is popular everywhere.F. However, everybody needs friends.G. Even so, it often leaves one to wonder if we fit in well. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分 45 分)第一节 (共 20 小题,每小题 1.5 分,满分 30 分)阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。      One morning the door to the classroom opened and a new teacher, Mrs Cosby, walked in.
