All the students will make great progress in expressing preferences with the relative clause.Teaching Aims and Demands:1. Knowledge Objects(1) Key Vocabulary:prefer, lyric, sing along with, dance to.(2) Target LanguageWhat kind of music do you like? I like music that I can sing along with. What about you? I prefer music that has great lyrics.2. Ability Objects(1) To train the students to express preferences.(2) To improve the students' listening and speaking skills. 3.Moral ObjectLet's enjoy music. It always brings us happiness.Teaching Key Points:To master the key vocabulary and the target language.Teaching Difficult PointsHow to express preferences using the relative clauses with that and who.Teaching Methods:Listening method, communicative method, pairwork, chain drill.Teaching AidsA projector, some tapes of different kinds of music.Teaching Procedures:Step 1. Lead-in.1. Ask, Tomorrow Ill take a big test. Im very nervous now. Can you tell me what I should do? Let students give their answers. Maybe some students say, You can take a deep breath or listen to music. Play some pieces of music in order to choose the suitable kind of music that can make me relaxed. Help students to realize different kinds of music give people different feelings.2. Then say, What kind of music do you know? Show some pictures of different kinds of music. Tell students to say the name of each kind of music.Play the tapes of four different kinds of music for the students, only a short piece of each tape. Let students express their feelings about each piece of music. Then guide them to express their feelings using the relative clause. Tell them lyrics means the contents of the songs.3. Show some pictures of different kinds of music on the screen. Ask students to express the preferences according to these pictures. Ask students, What kind of music do you like? Guide students to answer it with the relative clause.4. Show two pictures of country music and classical music on the screen. Tell students, I like country music. I like classical music better. Then lead them to say I like classical music to country music. Show more pictures to present the usage of the word “prefer”.设计意图:通过设置适当的情境导入新课,利用图片帮助学生回忆不同种类的音乐;通过欣赏一些音乐片段,让学生谈论听各种音乐的感受,并帮助学生尝试用定语从句来表达。让学生在快乐的活动中获取知识体验。Step 2. Presentation.1. Free talk.Read the instructions of Activity 1a to the students. Make sure they understand what to do.First have them look at the pictures and circle the sentences they agree with. Read each sentence to the class and ask the students to raise their hands to see if they agree. Make a survey to find out how the class feel about each item. Discuss the result of the survey with the class.Get the students to complete the sentence to tell what kind of music they enjoy. Ask some of the students to share their sentences. Write any new word or phrase on the blackboard to help them if necessary.2. Listening practice.Say, we will hear Tony and Betty talking about the kinds of music each one likes. Let's see the instructions first.Read the instructions to the students. Tell them to tick () the right statements while they are listening. Read the three headings before playing the tape.Play the tape the first time and the students only listen. Then play it for a second time. The students tick in the right answer boxes.Check the answers.3. Pairwork.Read the instructions to the students. First ask a pair of students to read the example in the box,Get the students to work in pairs. Answer the questions with their own preferences. As the students do the activity, move around the classroom and give them some help. Then ask several pairs of students to perform their conversations before the class. Collect the mistakes they make and correct them.设计意图:通过图片呈现加深学生对定语从句的理解,让学生尝试运用定语从句表达自己对音乐的看法;适时开展听说训练活动,促进学生熟练运用目标语言。Step 3. Practice.1. Read the instruction of 2a to the students and make sure they know what to do. Tell the students that we are going to hear a conversation between a girl and a5boy, they are talking about the music and musicians they like.Play the recording the first time. Students only listen. Then play it again and ask students to circle T or F.Later check the answers with the class.2. For 2b, Say, We will hear the same recording again. Listen carefully, find out what Carmen and Xu Fei say and complete the sentences in the chart.Play the recording again. Pause the tape if necessary. Finally, invite a student to read his or her complete sentences to check the answers.3. Get two students to read the conversation in the box in 2c to the class. Tell them each pair of them should make a conversation using the information from activities 2a and 2b. Ask them to work in pairs.Finally invite one or two pairs to act out their conversations to the class.设计意图:从学生的生活经验和兴趣爱好入手,围绕目标语言设计不同的任务,运用任务型语言教学模式巩固所学知识、提高学生听说能力。Step 4. Consolidation.Show the background of the conversation: Jill and Scott are talking about their favorite music and movies. Let students listen to the tape of 2d carefully to get the main idea.Have students read the conversation between boys and girls. Then ask students to role play the conversation. Explain some grammar points if necessary.Finally invite several pairs to perform for the whole class.设计意图:通过对话表演使学生进一步掌握运用定语从句表达个人喜好的方法,同时培养学生的阅读策略。Step 5. SummarySay, In this class, we've learned some new words such as prefer, lyrics and so on. HomeworkAsk students to work in groups and do a survey of what kind of music the members in the group like.
