In 1933, Nie Er joined the Communist Party of China. He was very active in politics and wrote a lot of patriotic songs, among which March of the Volunteers was chosen as the national anthem of the Peoples Republic of China. Unfortunately, in July, 1935, when he was swimming in Japan, he was drowned. The whole nation was sad for him.
