十必修2 Unit 5Music(限时35分钟). 阅读理解(2021·济南模拟) Vijay Gupta is known to classical music lovers across the United States. He serves as first violinist for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In that job, he often plays to large crowds, including many very rich people. When he is not performing, he organizes concerts for homeless people. “They have reminded me why I became a musician, ” he said. Last week, Gupta was recognized for being a founder and the artistic director of Street Symphony. The group has performed at homeless shelters, jails and halfway houses for about eight years. Gupta is among the 25 winners of the 2018 MacArthur Fellowship, commonly known as the “genius grant. ” Each winner will receive $625, 000 over five years to use as they wish. The money is coming from a private group, the John D. and Katherine T. MacArthur Foundation. It awards grants (补助金)to people whose work it considers exceptional and that “inspires hope in us all. ” Gupta said he got the idea for Street Symphony while teaching Nathaniel Ayers, a trained musician whose mental illness led to homelessness. The 31-year-old grant winner said he does not know yet how he will spend the money. He has been a performer since age seven and the award will give him “space to breathe, plan and look ahead. ” Another winner is Rebecca Sandefur, an associate professor of sociology and law in the University of Illinois. The Associated Press says her research actively supports new ways to involve poor communities in the U. S. justice system. 47-year-old Sandefur created the first national mapping of civil legal aid providers. It shows which states had the financial resources to provide such aid and which did not. She also found that the cost of legal services is only one of the things preventing poor people from getting lawyers. Among the others are fears about unfairness in the legal system. Sandefur noted that a lot of attention has been paid to problems with the criminal justice system, but more attention must be paid to the civil side of the law, which also affects millions of people. 【文章大意】本文主要讲述了美国两位麦克阿瑟奖学金的获奖者Gupta和Sandefur分别通过为流浪者演奏音乐和为穷人争取法律援助而激励穷人的故事。1. Steve, a star basketball player at the University of California, with his cousin Zach, had planned a camping trip in the Great National Forest for their summer vacation. The boys packed clothes and supplies into a bag, and began their great adventure with the dog Brady early in the morning. Upon arrival, Steve pulled over to the side of the road along the bank of the river. “A wonderful place for fishing, ” Steve exclaimed in delight. Zach nodded in agreement.   At high noon, the sun was scorching hot. With a good harvest of fish, the boys marched into the forest with Brady following them. After a long walk, they found a clearing that was ideal for a campsite(野营地). The camp was set up immediately as Steve knew all the tricks of an experienced wilderness camper. An afternoon nap was absolutely a special treat in mid-summer. However, the boys were waken up by the fierce barks of Brady. Outside, heavy smoke filled the air and wind-blown flame was skipping from the top of one tree to another. The long dry summer turned the forest into a tinderbox. In a little while, Steve and Zach were inside their tent packing their belongings. “Lets go! We can make it back to the river! ” They headed down against the firewind in the direction of the river. But Brady barked a sharp warning. Ahead of them lay a thick curtain of smoke across the track. They would never make it through that. Steve was uneasy for it was hard to find a safe way to escape in the heavy smoke.   Brady lifted his head and sniffed(嗅)the smoke-laden wind. Next moment, the dog bounded away and disappeared down a sharp slope(斜坡). The boys shouted for him, but he didnt come back. Steve couldnt blame Brady for panicking. He himself wanted to run even though he didnt have a clue which way. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2. 至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3. 续写部分分为两段, 每段的开头语已为你写好; 4. 续写完成后, 请用下划线标出所使用的关键词语。Paragraph 1: Steve and Zach hadnt gone far when there was a familiar bark. _Paragraph 2: Brady pulled again, in spite of the boys disbelief, urgently. _【参考范文】Paragraph 1: Steve and Zach hadnt gone far when there was a familiar bark. Brady came bounding, stopped directly in front of Steve and hit him with his head, pushing him back toward the slope. But Steve didnt get it. Then Brady grabbed the boys jeans and started pulling. The message was clear, but Steve hesitated. Of course he remembered Brady saving his uncles life when the dog was much younger. Was he still sharp enough to get them through this? Paragraph 2: Brady pulled again, in spite of the boys disbelief, urgently. “OK, big guy, ” seeing the fire was touching underbrush nearby, Steve made up his mind. Brady led them back down the slope and into the trees. Several times the big dog stopped. Often he changed directions to find the right way. The boys were so tired but the dog urged both boys to go on. Steve was almost numb when he heard itthe wonderful sound of rushing water! They made it back to the river.  . 阅读理解A(2021·临川模拟) We moved to Elmont in 1956. I was 4 years old. Elmont was a wonderful place to grow up. There were lots of kids, great schools and we had a big yard. My father, Nicholas Denaro, believed that grass was not just to look at, but that children were meant to play on it. We played games and badminton there. A white fence separated our backyard from a small wood. My friends and I jumped the fence and entered the woods. My father had the most amazing hands. He could fix anything. He gave those amazing hands to his son, my younger brother, Frank, who also became handy around the house. But my father saved his green fingers for me. He grew flowers, tomatoes, strawberries and figs(无花果) and he shared his love of gardening with me. Fourteen years ago, I went to a
