It takes a historical perspective and helps students, through text reading, relevant documentary watching, picture appreciation, better understand the genesis of European culture, important movements and achievements in the process of its evolvement and their influences upon social life. It is hoped that the course will enhance students* humanistic awareness, broaden their academic view and increase their ability in critical-thinking. Furthermore, the course is intended to benefit its takers as far as the use of English language is concerned.课程教学大纲(Course Syllabus)*学习目标 (Learning Outcomes)课程通过介绍欧洲各历史时期一古希腊罗马、中世纪基督教、文艺复兴与宗教改革、 自然科学发展与启蒙运动至十九世纪一主要文化成就,实现以下教学目标: 1.学生在学习、了解欧洲文化的同时,增加系统性知识积累。2 .课程采用英汉双语教学,提高学生的英语文本解读能力、分析批评能力。3 .学生建立开阔的知识视野,提高人文素养。The course aims to achieve the following teaching objectives by introducing the major cultural achievements of the various historical periods in Europe - Ancient Greece and Rome, Medieval Christianity, Renaissance and Religious Reformation, Natural Science Development and Enlightenment Movement to the 19th century:1. Students can learn and understand European culture while accumulating systematic knowledge.2. The course adopts bilingual teaching in English and Chinese to improve students' ability to interpret, analyze and criticize English texts.3. The proportions of each part are as follows: Classroom performance and homework: 30%. Mainly to assess participation in the classroom, the ability to understand the text, the ability to analyze problems, and the performance of the mid-term test; Group work and report discussion: 20%.
