中考英语复习-七年级短文阅读 2Show the Beauty of China Through MusicGilad Segev is a famous musician.He loves China and he is working on a project to show thebeauty of China.The project is called Project 34.Segev lives in Israel.Over the past ten years,the musician has visited China over 20 times toperform across the country.“The more I travel there,the more I like it.I want to tell the story ofthis beautiful country,”he said.In June 2020,Segev started Project 34.He planned to write a song for each of the 34provincial-level regions in China.Now he has written 17 songs and shared videos about themonline.Most of his songs in the project are in English.For each music video,he works togetherwith a Chinese musician.For example,in the song about Hubei Province,a Chinese musicianplays the guqin,and Segev plays the piano.Thousands of people have watched his music videos.Many people say that they are moved bythe songs and want to visit these places.“Through my music,many people in other countries discovered a side of China that they didntknow before,”said Segev.“I hope the project will help them know more about China and love itas I do.”The First RainOn August 14,2021,it rained at the highest point of Greenlands ice sheet.This is normally thecoldest part of the ice sheet,and it had never rained there before.Scientists say it may havesomething to do with global warming.Greenlands ice sheet is a layer of ice about 3.2 kilometers thick and it covers a huge area.Itsone of the planets two ice sheets.Normally,it is a very cold place.The temperature there isusually below 0.Although scientists have been working there for over 40 years,they havenever seen rain there.However,the temperature went up to just above 0on August 14,and it rained for several hours.The event was astonishing to everyone.The scientists didnt even have the right tools to studyhow much rain fell.The reason for this rain is:warm air comes to the area and stops there,making the temperaturerise.This has happened more often in recent years because of global warming.It can lead to“melt events”a lot of the ice sheet melts.The rain at the ice sheets top point didnt bring big problems.But melt events can be a problem.If all ice of Greenland melts,the worlds sea levels will be 6 meters higher.No one wants this tohappen.Tencent Uses New Technology on Child GamersTencent,a Chinese company,is using a special way to stop children from playing it sonline videogames late at night.That is facial recognition.“Children,put your phones away and go to sleep,”Tencent said.The new technology,Midnight Patrol,came out in 2021.Spending too much time playing computer games is bad for young peoples health.In fact,in2019,China started to stop people under 18 from playing online games between10 p.m.and 8a.m.It also limited how much time young people can spend playing games.People must use their real names to play online games.But some kids often find ways to getaround such rules like using their parents phones or names.Tencent uses this new technology to stop this from happening.They ask users to pass a facialrecognition test if they want to go on playing after 10 p.m.If the user cant pass the test,Tencentwill turn off the game.Now,the technology is being used on 60 of Tencents online games.And Tencent will introduce itto more games in the future.What a Loving Neighborhood!Its a neighborhood in Baltimore,USA.By the time the holidays were coming in 2020 and 2021,the neighborhood hung uplights across the street to connect homes there.The idea came fromMatt Riggs.In 2020,Matt,the Baltimore man,hungup holiday lights to let his neighbor feel the connectionthey shared.Hisneighbor Kim Morton had a difficult time because of COVID-19.She shared howshe felt online.When Matt first saw Kims post,he decided to hang up lights between their twohouses to show she wasnt alone.“I was reaching out to Kimto brighten her world,”Matt said.Without being asked,other neighbors hung up lights of their own.In a few days,lots of strandscrossed the street from one house to the next.“Little by little,the whole neighborhood started doing it,”Matt said.“The lights showconnection and love.”In 2021,the neighborhood came together once more to show their connection.This time,theymade a party of decorating the street,hanging more lights than ever.Melissa DiMuzio,one of theneighbors,even spelled out a message“Love Lives Here”.What a beautiful way to show love forthe neighbors!What a loving neighborhood!
