A team led by the U.K. -based University of Exeter found that going to sleep between 10 and 11 p.m. was beneficial compared to earlier or later bedtimes. The research included 88,000 participants in the U.K. Biobank who were recruited between 2006 and 2010. The average age of the group 一 ranging from 43 to 79 years old 一 was 61 and 58 percent were women. Participants filled out demographic (人 口统计的),lifestyle, health and physical questionnaires, according to a European Society of Cardiology news release. The study looked at the association between objectively measuredsleep onset timing and cardiovascular disease using wrist-worn accelerometers, collecting a week's worth of data.Using Cox proportional hazards models, an age- and sex-controlled base analysis found that sleep on set time of 10 to 10:59 p.m. was associated with the lowest incidence of cardiovascular。心血管的)disease. Another model that controlled for sleep duration, sleep irregularity and established cardiovascular risk factors like smoking status and body mass index did not reduce the impact of the association. There was a 25 percent higher risk of cardiovascular disease with sleep onset at midnight or later, a 12 percent greater risk for 11 to 11:59 p.m. and a 24 percent raised risk for falling asleep before 10 p.m. compared to sleep onset from 10 to 10:59 p.m. More than 3,170 cases, or 3.6 percent, were reported during an average follow-up period of nearly six years. Sensitivity analyses revealed the association with increased risk of cardiovascular disease was stronger in women, with only sleep onset earlier than 10 p.m. significant for men.“The body has a 24-hour internal clock, called circadian rhythm (昼夜节律),that helps regulate physical and mental functioning, study author David Plans of the University of Exeter said in a statement. "While we cannot conclude causation from our study, the results suggest that early or late bedtimes may be more likely to disrupt the body clock, with adverse consequences for cardiovascular health.8. How many participants are male in the study?A. 34,320.B. 51,040.C. 53,680.D. 36,960.9. Which of the following can reduce the risk of heart disease according the passage?A. Sleeping regularly.B. Sleeping at a proper time.C. Adjusting the body clock.D. Increasing sleep time.10. Which of the following is the worst sleep onset time according to the passage?A. 9:00 p.m.B. 10:30 p.m.11. How is Paragraph 4 mainly developed?A. By listing data.C. By analyzing causes.8. D 9. B 10. D 11. AC. 11:00 p.m.D. 12:00 p.m.B. By giving example.D. The most popular materials with the earliest artists were wood and bamboo but then the following were adopted: plastered walls, silk, and paper. Canvas would only be used widely from the 8th century CE. Brushes were made from animal hair, cut to a tapering end and tied to a bamboo or wood handle. Significantly, they were precisely the same instruments used by the calligrapher. The inks used were made from rubbing a dried cake of animal or vegetable matter mixed with minerals and glue against a wet stone. Each artist had to laboriously (辛苦士也)make their own inks as there was no commercial production of them. The two most popular themes of Chinese painting were portraits and landscapes. Portraits in Chinese art began in the Warring States Period and were traditionally rendered with great restraint, usually because the subject was a great scholar, monk or court official and so should, by definition, have a good moral character which should be portrayed with respect by the artist. For this reason, faces are often seemingly impassive (面无表f青的)with only the merest hint of emotion or character subtly expressed. Often the character of the subject is much more clearly expressed in their attitude and relationship to other people in the picture; this is especially true of portraits of emperors and Buddhist figures.Landscape painting had been around as long as artists had, but the genre really took off during the Tang dynasty when artists became much more concerned with humanity's place in nature. Typically, small human figures guide the viewer through a panoramic (全景的)landscape of mountains and rivers in Tang paintings. It should be no surprise that mountains and water dominated landscape painting as the very word in Chinese for landscapetranslates literally as "mountain-and-watef,. Trees and rocks are also featured and the whole scene is usually meant to capture a particular season of the year. Colours were limited in use, either everything in various shades of a single colour (illustrating the roots in calligraphy) or two colours combined, usually blues and greens.12. Which of the following is the latest material used by ancient artists?A. Bamboo.B. Canvas.C. Paper.Silk.13. Why did artists make inks themselves?A. No one sent inks to calligraphers.B. They wanted to make suitable inks for them.C. No inks were sold in the markets.D. The materials used were easy to find.14. Who is most likely to be the figure in the portrait according to the passage?A.An educator.B.A singer.C.A cowboy.D.A businessman.15. What began to rise in the Tang Dynasty?A.Portraits.B.Landscapes.C.Wall paintings.D.Calligraphy.12. B 13. C 14. A 15. B【分析】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了中国画所作画的材料,中国画的内容以及中国画最受欢迎的主题。【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第一段 “The most popular materials with the earliest artists were wood and bamboo but then the following were adopted: plastered walls, silk, and paper.
