    新时代大学互动英语2 测试题及答案写作与听力部分Test for Unit 7.docx

Test for Unit 7Writing (30 minutes)Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on the topic An Unforgettable Party. You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.Part I Listening Comprehension (25 minutes)Section ADirections: In this section, you will hear three news reports. At the end of each news report, you will hear two or three questions. Both the news report and the questions will be spoken only once. After you hear a question, you must choose the best answer from the four choices marked A), B), C) and D). Then mark the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet 1 with a single line through the centre.Questions 1 and 2 are based on the news report you have just heard.1.A) On Wednesday.B) On Monday.C) On Tuesday.D) On Friday.2.A) By the end of 2011.B) By mid-2009.C) By 2010.D) By 2012.Questions 3 and 4 are based on the news report you have just heard.3.A) 100 people were injured.B) Nine bombs exploded.C) Nothing special has happened.appoint critical habitat for the jaguar in the United States.J) This means that Fish and Wildlife must now also formulate a recovery plan for the jaguar. And since jaguars have not been able to reestablish themselves naturally over the past century, the government will likely have to go to significant expense to attempt to bring them back-especially if the cats have to be reintroduced.K) So why not do everything we can, at whatever cost, to bring jaguars back into the United States? To begin with, the American Southwest is, at best, marginal habitat for the animals. More important, there are better ways to help jaguars. South of our border, from Mexico to Argentina, thousands of jaguars live and breed in their true critical habitat. Governments and conservation groups (including the one I head) are already working hard to conserve jaguar populations and connect them to one another through an initiative called the Jaguar Corridor.L) The jaguars that now and then cross into the United States most likely come from the northernmost population of jaguars, in Sonora, Mexico. Rather than demand jaguars return to our country, we should help Mexico and other jaguar-range countries conserve the animals1 true habitat.M) The recent move by the Fish and Wildlife Service means that the rare federal funds devoted to protecting wild animals will be wasted on efforts that cannot help save jaguars. It also stands to weaken the Endangered Species Act, because if critical habitat is redefined as any place where a species might ever have existed, and where you or I might want it to exist again, then the door is open for many other sense less efforts to bring back long-lost creatures.N) The Fish and Wildlife officials whose job is to protect the country's wild animals need to grow a stronger backbone-stick with their original, correct decision and save their money for more useful preservation work. Otherwise, when funds are needed to preserve all those small, ugly, non-charismatic endangered species at the back of the line, there may be no money left.36. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service should be more determined and saving for the conservation work.37. It is still a fact that there is no suitable place for jaguars to live safely in the UnitedStates.38. Jaguars were regarded as endangered species because of their rare appearance at the United States-Mexico border.39. Money was not spent effectively in helping save jaguars in the recent move by the Fish and Wildlife Service.40. It can be inferred that the United States is not the best choice for jaguars to live from the evidence that they don't settle anywhere here.41. South of the United States* border, from Mexico to Argentina, is the true critical habitat for jaguars.42. Fish and Wildlife officials were sure enough to appoint critical habitat for the jaguar in the United States.43. It is necessary for the government to invest lots of funds in order to help jaguars to reestablish.44. It didn't indicate that jaguars had settled down in the United States even though they were seen within 40 miles of the Mexican border at times.45. The number of jaguars breeding populations in significant areas of the western United States has deceased in the past century.Section CDirections: There are 2 passages in this section. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should decide on the best choice.Passage OneQuestions 46 to 50 are based on the following passage.Henry Ford, the famous U.S. inventor and car manufacturer, once saidThe business of America is business." By this he meant that the U.S. way of life is based on the values of the business world.Few would argue with Ford's statement. A brief glimpse at a daily newspaper vividly shows how much people in the United States think about business. For example, nearly every newspaper has a business section, in which the deals and projects, finances and management, stock prices and labor problems of corporations are reported daily. In addition, business news can appear in every other section. Most national news has an important financial aspect to it. Welfare, foreign aid, the federal budget, and the policies of the Federal Reserve Bank are all heavily affected by business. Moreover, business news appears in some of the unlikeliest places. The world of arts and entertainment is often referred to as “the entertainment industry" or “show business.”The positive side of Henry Ford's statement can be seen in the prosperity that business has brought to U.S. life. One of the most important reasons so many people from all over the world come to live in the United States is the dream of a better job. Jobs are produced in abundance (大量地)because the U.S. economic system is driven by competition. People believe that this system crates more wealth, more jobs, and a materially better way of life. The negative side of Henry Ford's statement, however, can be seen when the word business is taken to mean big business. And the term big business-referring to the biggest companies, is seen in opposition to labor. Throughout U.S. history working people have had to fight hard for higher wages, better working conditions, and the fight to form unions. Today, many of the old labor disputes are over, but there is still some employee anxiety. Downsizing-the laying off of thousands of workers to keep expenses low and profits highcreates feelings of insecurity for many.46. The United States is a typical country.A. which encourages free trade at home and abroadB. where people's chief concern is how to make moneyC. where all businesses are managed scientificallyD. which normally works according to the federal budgetThe influence of business in the U.S. is evidenced by the fact that.A. most newspapers are run by big businessesB. even public organizations concentrate on working for profitsC. Americans of all professions know how to do businessD. even arts and entertainment are regarded as businessAccording to the passage, immigrants choose to settle in the U.S., dreaming thatA. they can start profitable businesses thereB. they can be more competitive in businessC. they will make a fortune overnight thereD. they will find better chances of employmentHenry Ford's statement can be taken negatively because.A. working people are discouraged to fight for their fightsB. there are many industries controlled by a few big capitalistsC. there is a conflicting relationship between big corporations and laborD. public services are not run by the federal governmentA company's efforts to keep expenses low and profits high may result inA. reduction in the number of employeesB. improvement of working conditionsC. fewer disputes between labor and managementD. a rise in workers' wagesPassage TwoQuestions 51 to 55 are based on the following passage.President Coolidge's statement, "The business of America is business,“ still points to an important truth today-that business institutions have more prestige (威望)in American society than any other kind of organization, including the government. Why do business institutions possess this great prestige? One reason is that Americans view business as being more firmly based on the ideal of competition than other institutions in society. Since competition is seen as the major source of progress and prosperity by most Americans, competitive business institutions are respected. Competition is not only good in itself, it is the means by which other basic American values such as individual freedom, equality of opportunity, and hard work are protected.Competition protects the freedom of the individual by ensuring that there is no monopoly(垄断)of power. In contrast to one, all-powerful government, many businesses compete against each other for profits. Theoretically, if one business tries to take unfair advantage of its customers, it will lose to competing business which treats its customers more fairly. Where many businesses compete for the customers' dollar, they cannot afford to treat them like inferiors or slaves.A contrast is often made between business, which is competitive, and government, which is a monopoly. Because business is competitive, many Americans believe that it is more supportive of freedom than government, even though government leaders are elected by the people and business leaders are not. Many Americans believe, then, that competition is as important, or even more important, than democracy in preserving freedom.Competition in business is also believed to strengthen the ideal of equality of opportunity. Competition is seen as an open and fair race where success goes to the swiftest person regardless of his or her social class background. Competitive success is commonly seen as the American alternative to social rank based on family background. Business is therefore viewed as an expression of the idea of equality of opportunity rather than the aristocratic(贵族的)idea of inherited privilege.47. The statement “The business of America is business" probably means “A. The business institutions in America are concerned with commerceB. Business problems are of great importance to the American governmentC. Business is of primary concern to AmericansD. America is a great power in world businessAmericans believe that they can realize their personal values only.A. when given equality of opportunityB. through doing businessC. by protecting their individual freedomD. by way of competitionWho can benefit from business competition?A. Honest businessmen.B. Both businessmen and their customers.C. People with ideals of equality and freedomD. Both business institutions and government.48. Government is believed to differ strikingly from business in that government is characterized by.A. its absolute control of powerB. its function in preserving personal freedomC. its role in protecting basic American valuesD. its democratic way of exercising leadershipIt can be inferred from the passage that the author believes.A. Americans are more ambitious than people in other countriesB. in many countries success often depends on one's social statusC. American businesses are more democratic than those in other countriesD. businesses in other countries are not as competitive as those in AmericaPart IV Translation (30 minutes)Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to translate a passage from Chinese into English.自驾游(self-driving tour)属于自助旅游的一种,是近年来我国新兴的旅游方式。 自驾游在选择目的地、参与程序和体验自由等方面给旅游者提供了伸缩自如的空 间,与传统的参团旅游(group tour)相比具有本身的特点和魅力。随着自驾车旅游 者的增多,自驾游市场已具规模,越来越多的旅行社'汽车俱乐部'汽车租赁(car rentals)公司看好并涉足这一市场的开发。答案和听力原文Part I Writing (15%)Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on the topic An Unforgettable Party. I was told by doctor to lie in bed for one month or so, which deeply frustrated me. Still more disappointedly, my classmates and I had planned a trip to Zhongshan Park to celebrate my birthday the following Sunday. However, now my plan melted into the air. There was no doubt that I would have a lonely and boring birthday. To my surprise, on the afternoon of my birthday, several classmates turned up in my home with a bunch of flowers and wonderful gifts. We had a merry chat, singing Karaoke and playing cards. All of us were bubbling over with enthusiasm. When they were leaving, they wished me a speedy recovery. I was deeply touched by their thoughtfulness and kindness, and the impressive birthday party will stick in my mind forever.(173 words)Listening comprehension (35%)Section A (共7分,每题1分)A 2. A 3. B 4.
