Pre-learning:(1) The teacher reviews what have been taught in the last unit with students. (Teaching aims: To arouse students interest and let them retreat modal verbs.)(2) The teacher displays five sentences from the reading passage and asks students to find out the modals. (Teaching aims: Students can develop their critical thinking ability.)2. While-learning:(1) The teacher plays a video clip and asks students to think about function of the modals. (Teaching aims: Students can cultivate their thinking ability.)(2) The teacher asks students to figure out the meanings of each new modal verb respectively, based on given five sentences. (Teaching aims: Students can learn the new functions of modal verbs.)(6) The teacher asks students to compare those three modals in the real context to find out the differences in indicating possibility. (Teaching aims: Students can have a deeper understanding of modals when it comes to using modals to show possibility.)3. Post-learning:(1) Students think about the questions: What happens if we change “must” and “might” into “could”? (Teaching aims: To check if students can differentiate the usages of these three modals.)(2) The teacher asks students to finish the following exercises and check the answers together. (Teaching aims: Students may deepen their understanding of what they have learned.)4.
