Pre-reading:(1) The teacher shares her personal experience in Guangzhou Marathon and ask students whether they have taken part in amateur marathon or what they know about marathon. (Teaching aims: To add students background knowledge of marathon and stimulate their interest.)(2) The teacher asks students to look at the chart and answer the questions in Activity 1. (Teaching aims: To lead students into analyzing a chart.)2. While-reading:(1) The teacher asks students to share with the classmates their personal understanding of the title. (Teaching aims: To have students predict the passages content and main idea.)(2) The teacher asks students to read the passage and complete the table with expressions from the passage. (Teaching aims: To get students to have some details in the text and figure out the structure of the text.)(3) The teacher asks students to discuss the four questions in “Think and Share”. (Teaching aims: To guide students to recognize the significance of running.)(4) The teacher invites some students to share their opinions.(5) The teacher guides students to line out some important language points in the passage and introduces their common usages. When did you start to like running? What do you think of this marathon? What challenges did you face?
