中考英语复习 阅读理解练习 The Parkinson’s Painter 课文原文及练习含答案.doc
The Parkinsons PainterNorman Greenstein lives in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. After being diagnosed with Parkinsons, he decided to turn his dark diagnosis into a good chance to achieve a lifelong dream. Now, Norman Greenstein is known as “The Parkinsons Painter”.When Norman was young, he loved painting and dreamed of being an artist. But a teacher of an art school didnt think he had a talent for painting after he showed his work to the teacher. Then Norman put his dream aside, and supported his family whole-heartedly. However, his love for painting was always in his heart. In 2008, when he was diagnosed with Parkinsons and had to get treatment, he decided to pick up the brush again. Then Norman began painting every day as a way to stay busy. He joyfully found that this creative work helped him face the problems of his Parkinsons. He said, “Painting has brought me happiness and peace. Its a very important activity for me. The simple movements while painting relax me.”In addition to creating his own paintings, Norman also tries to help other people like him. He raises money to support the research on Parkinsons. He shares his experience with people with Parkinsons in an effort to help them find the same relief. Also, Norman sells his paintings. He gives away 20% of all sales to two Parkinsons research organizations.Norman didnt give up his dream in the face of Parkinsons. Instead, it has inspired him to work hard for his dream.
