Arden Textile is a company that makes sports clothes. The company was started in 1906, and is still owned by the Arden family. In December 20032022, a terrible fire destroyed the company's largest factory, and the company had to close. More than 1,000 workers lost their jobs. The company9s insurance paid fbr the loss. The Arden family talked about building a new factory overseas, where costs are lower. But instead they decided to rebuild the factory. During the rebuilding, the company gave all the workers their regular pay. This caused great financial problems for the company, and they almost went out of business.Did the company do the right thing? Many people said yes, because Arden Textile helped their employees. The company's president was on many TV programs, and received an award from the Prime Minister. But other people said no. They said that the main responsibility of a business is to make profits, and thafs how it helps society the most. We'll discuss this case in more detail next time.
