Just then the babysitter called, telling me that she was extremely sorry for asking for a day off. I knew that emergencies did occur, and I told her that I completely understood. But what was actually going through my mind were feelings of frustration and self-pity. And I had to pack my three kids into the car, and then drove to the hospital. On the way, numerous things flooded into my mind, and I especially写作高级训练第五周thought about how life should be going. I was thirty years old, a mother of three girls - five-year-old twins and a one-year-old baby. At this moment, I should be playing with them in the park or visiting the library together. But I was, once again, going to see the doctor. It had been a year since I was diagnosed with cancer. I knew that I was one of the lucky ones. I was grateful that surgery and chemotherapy (化疗)were over, and this was just a routine blood test. As always, there was the remaining fear that the cancerwould come back. To be honest, my family and friends were great during the past year when I was in bad condition, but they were also busy with their lives. Therefore, I did not want to burden them with my feelings of unhappiness. What I just wanted to see was the positive things in life and I really wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to them. When we finally arrived, we sat in a crowded waiting room. Nothing special occurred until my youngest daughter, dressed up as an angel, walked up to a woman who was in a wheelchair and accompanied by her caregiver. My daughter looked at the woman and pointed to the vending ( 售货)machine next to her, saying sweetly, “Tweet." This was how she said “Trick or Treat", who had been coached previously by her twin sisters.Surprisingly, the woman, a complete stranger to us, knew exactly what my daughter meant. My daughters thanked everyone who gave them treats. Music has always been an essential part of my family. As a little girl, I often watched my mom singing with others in the church. As I grew older, she and I would sing while we did the dishes or hung clothes. My brother Dean was also a musical soul. In good time or in bad, there was always music in our house. It shaped us, comforted us, and gave us a way to express feelings that might otherwise have gone unspoken. After Dean became a father, we learned that his oldest son was on the autism spectrum (自闭症).My nephew Dj did not handle social situation well, and sometimes even for him to speak aloud outside the family was a struggle. He worked very hard to overcome his fears, so much so that the year he was eight, he decided he wanted to be part of the Christmas music program with写作高级训练第五周the other children in his Sunday school class. The part he had been offered was one that required him to sing a verse all on his own - a solo.My brother carefully explained to him that this would mean singing in front of the audience; there would be no one singing with him. Dj considered this very carefully. After a couple of days, he decided that he would accept the part. He explained to us that he believed he could do it because it was a very special occasion, and lie would practice until he was as perfect as he could be. He said he knew his daddy would help him to be the best singer possible. For over a month, he and his father practiced together. Every evening would find them locked away in the music room, my brother on guitar, and my nephew's small voice coming from somewhere deep down inside his little body. He gained confidence, and when the day of the concert arrived, he was certain all would go well. My brother waited backstage, giving Dj double thumbs-up, and he came out Io sit with the rest of the family to watch and take photos. When it was finally time for Dj to sing, the music played on, and he froze.Everyone turned to see who was singing, while I knew it was my brother.
