A The history ofpop art begins with abstract art.Pop art emerged from the foundation of abstract art in the 1950s,first gaining recognition in Great Britain, then establishing itself in the United States in the 1960s.In the 1930s and 1940s,abstract art was greatly popular, but people began to hate this art form. Most abstract art produced in this era could be found in art galleries or the homes of the elite(名流),not in the homes of everyday people.Pop art sprung onto the scene as the peoples art. Some art critics say pop art is a rebellion against abstract art;others say it is an extension of abstract art.You can see elements of abstract art in many pop art prints, especially those that consist of a collage(拼贴画)of images. However, some pop art pieces have nothing to do with abstract art, looking more like a photo of a popular consumer item, which impressed people deeply.Richard Hamilton and Eduardo Paolozzi were two of the first contemporary pop art pioneers recognised in Great Britain. They were a part of the Independent Group,an organised group of British artists who wanted to challenge ruling modernist approaches to culture. They recognised the value of modern advertising and comic book images. They used these popular images in art as a social commentary, often building irony and humour into their artworks, thus creating a new form of art. These pieces were mass-produced and sold at affordable prices. When pop art took off in the United States,it expanded to include a celebration of kitsch and the common images found in movies and television.Andy Wharhol is perhaps the most famous American pop art artist, known for his prints of the actress Marilyn Monroe, the singer Elvis Presley and of Campbells soup cans.Andy Wharhol was inspired by images from advertisements and common consumer items. He also made a series of paintings which showed images of car accidents.1.Why did people dislike abstract art?A.People found it hard to understand.B.Ordinary people couldnt afford it.C.People disliked enjoying it in galleries.D.It wasnt based on everyday life.2.What impression do pop art works leave on people?A.They are a rebellion against abstract art.B.They have many elements of abstract art.C.They are created so real.D.They are products of advertisers.3.The Independent Group was set up to _.A.introduce a new art form to the world B.develop modern advertising further C.create new comic book images D.make British culture better known B People saved a 20-foot orca(虎鲸)that was stuck between rocks on an Alaskan shore by continuously pouring water over it and protecting it from birds who circled above the defenseless whale. The whale was ultimately saved after a six-hour,labor-intensive life-saving operation.Someone spotted the large whale on the Prince of Wales Island near the coast of British Columbia on the morning of July 29th.The Coast Guard was called around 9 a.m.local time.Chance Strickland, the captain of a private yacht in Alaska, and his crew anchored and began life-saving action that were videoed by Aroon Melane and posted on the Internet.Strickland could hear the orca calling out to killer whales swimming in the area.People on other boats stopped with water and buckets to pour water over the animal.“There were tears coming out of its eyes,”Mr.Strickland told the local newspaper.“It was pretty sad.”The group of people formed a chain that passed buckets of seawater back and forth and poured the water on the orca, which seemed to liven it up.It made a noise and raised its tail when it got water. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(NOAA)was called in,which can be seen on the video using a machine to spray amist of seawater on the orca, which doubled as a way to keep the whale cool and scare the large group of birds that were hoping to feast on the beast.Melane said in her video that the orca was stranded(搁浅)for about six hours until the tide came in andswept it back into the ocean. The group efforts of Stricklands crew and the NOAA saved the 13-year-old killer whale.4.Why did birds circle above the orca?A.They were eager to eat it.B.They wished to protect it.C.They were attracted by the people.D.They wanted to find a place to rest.5.What did Strickland do immediately after finding the whale?A.Posted pictures online.B.Called friends for help.C.Took action to save it.D.Videoed the trapped animal.6.Why did the whale make a noise and raise its tail?A.To express its eager for water.B.To extend its thanks to people.C.To call out to its fellow whales.D.To show its power and sadness.7.Which can be the best title for the text?A.Killer Whale Got Saved B.The Orca Inspired Kindness C.Combined Efforts Wanted D.Animals and Humans United C Cuckoos dont bother building their own neststhey just lay eggs that perfectly imitate those of other birds and take over their nests. But other birds are wishing up,evolving some seriously impressive tricks to spot the cuckoo eggs.Cuckoos are often know asparasites, meaning that they hide their eggs in the nest of other species. To avoid detection, the cuckoos have evolved so that eggs seem reproduction of those of their preferred targets. If the host bird doesnt notice the strange egg in its nest, the little cuckoo will actually take the entire nest for itself after it comes out, taking the other eggs on its back and dropping them out of the nest.To avoid this unpleasant fate for their young, the other birds have evolved a few smart ways to spot the fakes, which were only now beginning to fully understand. One of the most amazing finds is that birds have an extra colour-sensitive cell in their eyes, which makes them far more sensitive to ultraviolet wavelengths and allows them to see a far greater range of colours than humans can. This allows cautious birds to detect a fake egg which might be exactly the same to our eyes.Fascinatingly, were actually able to observe different bird species at very different points in their evolutionary war with the cuckoos. For instance, some cuckoos lay their eggs in the nests of the redstarts. The blue eggs these cuckoos lay are practically alike to those of the redstarts, and yet they are still sometimes rejected.Compare that with cuckoos who target dunnocks. While those birds lay perfectly blue eggs, their cuckoo invaders just lay white eggs with brown irregular shaped spots. And yet dunnocks barely ever seem to notice the obvious trick.Biologists suspect these more easily fooled species like the dunnocks are on the same evolutionary path as the redstarts, but they have a long way to go until they evolve the same levels of suspicion.Whats remarkable is that the dunnocks fakes are so bad and the redstart ones so good, and yet cuckoos are still more successful with the former than the latter. It speaks to just how thoroughly a species behavior can be changed by the pressures of natural selection,or it might just be a bit of strategic cooperation on the part of the dunnocks.Biologists have suggested that these birds are willing to tolerate a parasite every so often because they dont want to risk accidentally getting rid of one of their own eggs.8.This passage can be most likely found in a _.A.science survey B.nature magazine C.zoo advertisement D.travel journal 9.What does the underlined word“parasite”in paragraph 2 most probably refer to?A.Animals that work together to raise young.B.Small harmful animals such as worms or mice.C.Animals that can adapt to changing environments.D.Animals which live on or inside other host animals.10.Which of the following is TRUE about the dunnock according to the passage?A.It is colour-blind and therefore cannot identify foreign eggs in the nest.B.It can easily remove cuckoo eggs from the nest because fakes are so bad.C.It is a host bird that is more likely to raise a cuckoo chick than the redstart.D.It is unable to evolve and hence accepts cuckoo eggs that appear in the nest.11.Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?A.Dunnocks may eventually learn to recognise foreign eggs.B.Redstarts seem to be less suspicious compared to dunnocks.C.Cuckoo birds are good at taking responsibility for their own young.D.It is very easy for cuckoos to imitate the colouring of the dunnocks egg.D Australias Great Barrier Reef has lost 50%of its corals(珊瑚)within 30 years, with climate change a key driver of reef disturbance,a new study has found.Researchers from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies,inQueensland, northeasternAustralia, studied coral communities and theirsize along the length of theGreat Barrier Reefbetween 1995 and 2017,finding all coral populations disappear gradually, they said.Reefs are important to the health of ocean ecosystems without them, ecosystems break down and ocean life dies.Coral population decreases happened in both shallow and deep water coral species, experts found, but branching and table-shaped corals which provide habitats for fish were worst affected by mass bleaching(漂白)events in 2016.Warm ocean temperatures are the main reason of coral bleaching.Bleaching doesnt kill coral immediately, but if temperatures remain high, eventually the coral will die, destroying a natural habitat for many species of ocean life.“We used to think the Great Barrier Reef is protected by its huge size but in fact our results show that even the worlds largest and ly well-protected reef system is increasingly destroyed and in decline,”Terry Hughes,an outstanding professor at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, said.“There is no time to lose we must sharply decrease greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible,”the reporter warned in the paper, published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society journal.12.What has mainly influenced the coral populations of theGreat Barrier Reef?A.Destroyed habitats.B.Climate change.C.Lack of seafood.D.Bleaching events.13.What can we learn from the passage?A.Many species has been dying out slowly.B.The size of reefs contributes to their protection.C.Ocean ecosystems dont develop without reefs.D.Bleaching continually disturbs table-shaped corals.14.What attitude does the reporter hold to the present situation of theGreat Barrier Reef?A.Worried.B.Angry.C.Hopeful.D.Surprised.15.What is probably the best title for the passage?A.Climate change damages theGreat Barrier Reef B.The Species of ocean Life Are In Danger C.Greenhouse Gas Emissions Get Worse D.Sea Ecosystems Are In Decline 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项 Learning Is Everywhere and Anytime Employees nowadays are faced with major
