    1.While there has been a public debate about whether running is good for your health for a long time,experts agree that running will do more good to you than harm.Some people are concerned that oxygen to your muscles.Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day.4 .After your run,cool down with another five­minute walk.It will reduce the pain and can help prevent injuries.Lastly it is important to start out slowly.When it comes to getting in shape and losing weight,short bursts of speed followed by periods of slower movement would be proper.Aim at around 30 minutes of exercise a few days a week.5 .Always allow your body to rest in between heavy exercise as your muscles need time to bring energy back.Follow these instructions and your running experience will be a great one.AThey will help protect your ankles by providing stability to your feet.BCool water is best for replacing the water youve lost from sweating.CRunning is good for your health as well as your mind.DWhile this can be true,there are many things you can do to reduce your risk of injury.EAs you get better,you can increase your amount of exercise gradually.FTake advice from friends whom you will start running with.GThey can provide good tips as well as some support and encouragement for you.2.Imagine looking out of your window and seeing a whale swim by.Thats the sight that surprises New York City residents recently.In the past years,humpback whales have been spotted in the two rivers surrounding the island of Manhattan,the Hudson River and the East River.1 .Experts say that river cleanup efforts have improved water quality and led to an increase in the number of fish there.Fish are on the humpbacks menu.2 .The sighting is also an encouraging sign that conservation efforts are helping humpback whales come back.In 1973,the species was listed as the endangered.Now scientists say humpback whales are making a comeback.By the middle of the 20th century,hunting whales for profit had nearly wiped out many whale species.In 1973,the US.set up the Endangered Species Act.People were no longer allowed to hunt them in the US.waters.In 1982,the International Whaling is illegal worldwide.3 .Last September,it was announced that nine groups of humpback whales are no longer endangered.Four groups are still endangered and a fifth are threatened.4 .The number of them is growing particularly faster in the Southern Hemisphere like Tasman Sea and Coral Sea.And the number of humpback whales in Hawaii has made an amazing recovery.In 1966,there were fewer than 1,500 humpbacks there.Today there are about 10,000.But humpbacks in other parts of the world are still struggling.5 .“We still have a lot of work to do,” says Angela Somma,head of NOAAS Fisheries Endangered Species Division.“But with the right protection,the number of humpback whales should continue to grow.”AThose efforts to save whales are paying off.BPeople are frightened when seeing whales in the river.CLast year,one even swam past where the mayor lives.DToday there are about 100,000 humpback whales worldwide.EThe extra food in the rivers is mainly whats attracting the whales.FScientists have carried out further research on the number of the whales.GScientists say that the focus needs to be on the whales that are still struggling.3.What Teenagers Can Do to Earn More RespectAs teenagers continue to grow and develop into young adults,the transition(过渡) into adulthood has begun.With so many physical and emotional changes going on,certain manners are often forgotten and other adult traits(品质) are not yet accepted as a way of life.1 .By doing the following things,you will earn more respect.Contribute to the household.At the very least,clean up after yourself.As a teenager,you are old enough to clean up after yourself.When you make a mess,clean it up.2 .All chores(琐事) that you do help to reduce the load of the person who did them before.Now that youre old enough and capable,why shouldnt you contribute to the household?3 .Be responsible.4 .Whether they are basic things,like brushing your teeth or doing your homework,or more involved chores that contribute to the household,simply fulfill your responsibilities on time.When adults know that they can rely on you,their trust and respect for you will increase.Solve more of your own problem without asking for help.Instead of taking the easy approach and asking for help,make an effort to solve your problems on your own first.The “easy way” is only easy for you,but it is an extra task for the person from whom you are seeking help.Seek help only after you have made an honest effort to solve your own problems.5 .When you become a good problem solver,you increase your value to the community.AEveryone has certain responsibilities.BBy being aware of these manners and traits,you can manage them sooner.CThe people doing the chores before will greatly appreciate the help.DThis includes,but is not limited to,your dishes and your room.EIt will make your life more pleasant.FDepending on the problem,15 minutes of effort is usually a good guideline.GWhen speaking to a group,speak loud enough.4.Have you ever felt sick to your stomach during a test? Have you ever been so worried about something that you ended up with a terrible headache?If so,then you know what its like to feel stress.Youve probably heard people say,“Wow,Im really stressed out.”1 .But children have lots of things going on in their lives that can cause stress,too.What is stress?Stress is what you feel when you are worried or uncomfortable about something.This worry in your mind can make your body feel bad.You may feel angry,frustrated,scared,or afraidwhich can give you a stomachache or a headache.What causes stress?Plenty of things can cause stress in a childs life.2 .Good or normal stress might show up when youre called on in class or when you have to give a report.Have you ever gotten butterflies in your stomach or sweaty hands? Those can be signs of good stress.3 .For example,you may do a better job on your book report if the anxiety inspires you to prepare well before you get up and read it to the class.But bad stress can happen if the stressful feelings keep going over time.You may not feel well if your parents are fighting,if a family member is sick,if youre having problems at school,or if youre going through anything else that makes you upset every day.4 .Once you recognize that youre feeling stressed,there are several things you can do.You can try talking about whats bothering you with an adult you trust,like a parent or teacher.5 .An adult may have ideas about how to solve whatever is worrying you or making you uncomfortable.AThis kind of stress can help you to get things done.BMaybe you hear adults say those kinds of things all the time.CBring up whats been on your mind and how it makes you feel.DEveryone experiences stress at timesadults,teens,and even kids.EThere are ways to reduce stress and manage the stress thats unavoidable.FThat kind of stress isnt going to help you,and it can actually make you sick.GThe trick is to remember that some types of stress are good and others are bad.5.How to Become SmarterThere are three things that will get you ahead in life:Good looks,being smart and being considered as being smart.The first is God­given.1 .In this article we explore some different ways to become smarter.Go to college,and get an education.2 .It means that you will have been exposed to many different ideas and hopefully you will have learned how to think.Being able to think outside the box and for yourself are features smart people possess.Read books and educational magazine.3 .Educational magazines such asDiscoveryorNationalGeographicare a wealth of knowledge that you can share with others,thus making you sound very smart.If you do watch television,try watching something where you can learn such as theHistoryChannel,Discoveryetc.Expand your vocabulary.Try to learn one new word a week.It does not seem like much,but adding 52 new words to your vocabulary will make you appear much smarter.Subscribing is a good start.4 .This way you are actually getting 365 words a year,but that is usually more than most people can absorb.5 .Uneducated people and people not considered as being smart tend to do this.They hear an outrageous(骇人的) claim and they repeat it to the nearest ear.You can do much harm to your seek for being smart if you are known for giving bad information.AThat is my exact point.BAnd unluckily most of us are not good­looking.CYou will have a new word sent to your e­mail address daily.DThe programs actually provide you with information you can see.EReading books works the brain out more than viewing television.FDo not repeat everything people tell you until you know that it is true.GCollege does not necessarily mean you will be smarter,just educated.6.How to Survive High SchoolHigh school can be a terrible phase if you get it all wrong. Find out how to survive high school with a few easy tips.1. Be Yourself.High school is a fun time to make new friends, meet new people, date and socialize. Make friends with all kinds of people and not just a group which you are comfortable with. Most peer pressure cases are because of the weak image created by freshmen.1 Dont give in to anyones wants.2.2 .Choose your friends carefully and make sure you wont get influenced by anyone. Socialize, but by judging who you can connect to. You will find friends, but stay away from the ones who dont want to be your friends as a bad company is temping, but the good one is true.3. Be Optimistic.There is nothing better than having a smile on your face whenever you can.3 .Dont be afraid to make friends, dont get aggressive or personal with anyone and treat others the way you want to be treated. Respect your teachers and classmates and try to be helpful if you want the same in return.4. Be Confident.When you believe in yourself, others believe in you. Talk, walk and address people confidently and this will create a strong image about you.4 .Be creative and unique and learn to set trends. Confidence is one quality you grow with, and people respect you for that.5. Love High School.5 .Make the most out of it, and you will never get those moments back. Come up with prank ideas, get a detention, top your class, make the best friends, drink, go to prom, party, but just make as many memories as you can!With these tips to survive high school, you will surely be proud of graduating as an all round approaching adult carrying the best roots. So, when you throw those hats in the air, feel the freedom and remember every moment you spent in “High School”.A. And always wear your smile.B. Keep Good Company.C. Just be yourself and create a strong self image.D. Practice positive thinking.E. Do your thing, and dont imitate others.F. Fall in love with it.G. Study as hard as you can in your spare time.7.Laughter and tears are part of living. But do you find enough time for laughter? I am not asking if you experience lots of good times. Of course we should laugh during the happy times. _1_Erma Bombeck is known for her humorous books, but she wrote one that covered a more serious topic:cancer in children. Erma talks with lots of children with cancer and learns “important life lessons from them._2_She tells the experience of 15­year­old Jessica from Burlington. Jessicas leg wasamputated(锯掉) at the knee because of cancer. Jessica tells about playing soccer. She kicked the ball hard and it flew off in one direction while her artificial leg flew another way. Then “The tall, pretty person that I am,” she said, “sat on the floor in laughter.”Jessica may not have laughed about her cancer, but she laughed about dealing with its results. _3_Then there is the story of 17­year­old Betsy. She made her way to theradiationroom (放射室) for her regular radiation therapy. As usual, she dropped her hospital gown and, wearing only her birthday suit, climbed onto the table and waited. After a couple of moments she began to realize something disturbing: the extra people in the room were not the medical students she had thought, but rather painters giving an estimate on painting! _4_ And like Jessica, her ability to laugh helped her to deal with one of the most difficult things a young person canendure(忍受) cancer.There is a time to weep and a time to laugh._5_ And youll smile at the end.AShe was learning to wear an artificial leg.BAnd her laughter helped her cope.CYou would be happy if you find reasons to laugh.DBetsy laughed heartily about the incident.EBut do you also laugh during the difficult times?FIf you can laugh even when the going gets rough, youll make it.GShe learns, for instance, that cancer survivors know how to laugh.8.Most of us don't like to think too much about rubbish.1 . However ,household waste is a major contributor to our planet's waste problem. Like it or not, it needs to be managed if we are to have a brighter green future.When it comes to being responsible for our own rubbish, the best way to approach it is by following the three golden rules of waste management, or the '3Rs'-Reduce. Reuse and Recycle.“The order is important.2 .” says Eugene Tay, Director of Green Future Solutions in Singapore. “Recycling still affects the environment and should be done last after reduce and reuse.”But, when our efforts to reduce and reuse still result in an overflowing rubbish bin, the advantages of recycling cannot be ignored. “3 .” says Amy Ho Managing Director of World Wide Fund For Nature in Singapore. “The damage to our environment could then be slowed down as a result.”In fact, by recycling just one plastic bottle, you are saving not just the material to
