    Ladies and gentlemen, good morning! I am MLh, from Gaotai Senior High School. It is my great honor to be here to share my teaching design with you. Today, my topic is Unit 2: Lets celebrate. To make my presentation more clear, I will divide it into two main parts. Firstly, I will introduce the whole unit. Secondly, I will take one of my classes as an example. Now, lets start with the induction of unit 2.(1. theme and highlight 2.design principles and ideas 3.objectives of this unit. 4.the whole structure of this unit)1、The theme and highlight of unit 2The main context of this unit includes People and society, and it tells us some festivals from home and aboard. After learning some festivals, this unit shows a book review about Tolkien and father Christmas. Ss will also learn some Chinese traditional customs and peoples different opinions towards spring festival dinner from this unit. The highlight of this unit is the Understanding ideas and developing ideas, because there are two different festivals (Christmas and the Spring Festival) and Ss could learn the deep meaning behind festivals. Their critical thinking and cultural awareness will be improved. 2、 Design principles and ideasAccording to the new curriculum standard, I will combine subject, content, language skills, learning strategies, language knowledge and cultural knowledge together to get my teaching ideas. (from leaning different festivals to expressing their owns views towards festivals.3、 The objectives of unit 2.1.Ss will be able to read and understand these passages in this unit. (language ability)2.Ss will be able to express their own views about celebrating some festivals. (thinking and learning ability)3.Ss will be able to write a letter to express their own opinions to describe a festival with what they have learned from this unit. (learning ability and cultural awareness)4、The whole structure and arrangement of unit2. This unit is divided into five parts: Starting Out(1)、Understanding Ideas(2)、Using Language(2)、Developing Ideas(2) and Presenting Ideas(1). Unit 2: Understanding Ideas1.Analysis of teaching content.This passage is selected from unit 2 Book 2 published by FLTR (Foreign Language Teaching and Research press). This passage is a book review, and it tells us a book named Letters from Father Christmas written by An English writer Tolkien. In order to keep the father Christmas alive for his four children, Tolkien had been writing letters as the father Christmas to his children for over 20 years. This passage tells some main characters and stories about his letters.2.Analysis of studentsMy students come from class 1 and 5 in grade 1, GaoTai senior high school. They have already learnt the new words of this passage. Some of them are active and energetic in my class. Whats more, several students have seen movies, such as The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. But most of them are not familiar with Tolkien and his work, Letters from Father Christmas.3.Analysis of teaching objectivesAnd this is my teaching goals and core competence. First, students will be able to grasp the content of the text quickly and understand and explain the meaning of the title accurately through skimming. Second, students will be able to understand the characteristics of the article in the "BOOK REVIEW" part and obtain the key information about the works with their partners. Third, students will be able to have a deep understanding of the holiday by understanding the spirit of giving in the book Letters from Father Christmas, to cultivate cross-cultural awareness, and foster critical thinking.4.Teaching important and difficult pointsAnd then, I will talk about the Teaching important and difficult points. 1.lead students to get the main content of the letter in groups and list the reasons why the book is so popular. And understand the true meaning of Christmas. 2.lead students to summarize the basic structure and features of a book review. 3.lead students to express their views about the true meaning of Christmas, and talk about the meaning further.5.Teaching aids and methodsMy teaching methods are task-based teaching, Audio-visual strategy and Activity based learning approach.My teaching aids are PPT and blackboard.6. Teaching proceduresPre-reading: Watch a short video from movies The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings . The teacher asks students to observe some pictures about Tolkien and his novels . (Teaching aim: It can arouse students interest in learning the context.)While-reading:Activity1. Look at the picture and title, and read the first paragraph to confirm their predictions about this passage. (Teaching aim: Students can get to know some basic information.)Activity2. Ask students to skim this passage and find out the structure of this passage. Activity3. Ask students scan the passage and figure out the main ideas of each paragraph.Activity4. Ask students read carefully and fill some information in a mind map about this passage. Activity5. Ask students to talk with their partners and express their views about the core of Christmas.(Teaching aim: Students can master reading strategy, and cultivate their critical thinking and cultural awareness .)Post-reading (Think and Share):The teacher asks students to think about the question: What do you think is the core of Christmas? What do you think is the core of Christmas? . (Teaching aims: Students can have a group discussion and cultivate their critical thinking ability.)Homework Make a summary of this passage and try to write a book review to describe a book which you like best.
