高三英语一、阅读理解三篇:A)文章导读:你知道圣诞的起源吗?你知道在12.25还对那些宗教有重大意义吗?你知道以前的圣诞节是怎么样的吗?下面的文章会告诉你答案。Origins of the Christmas HolidayFrom its modest beginnings,Christmas has evolved into the biggest celebration in the world.Christmas is the fourth most important Christian date after Easter 复活节 Pentecost 圣灵降临节,andEpiphany 主显节,a feast held January 6 to commemorate the manifestation of the divinity of Jesus.RomanCatholics 罗马天主教徒 and Protestants 基督教新教 celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25.ManyOrthodox Christians 正统基督徒 use the Julian calendar, which places Christmas around January 6.Early Christians, however, did not celebrate Christmas. There was disagreement about when Jesus was bornand some early Christians opposed celebrating his birthday. In the fourth century Christmas was added to theChurch calendar as a feast day.A Common DateDecember 25 was a significant date for various early cultures. The ancient Babylonians believed the son ofthe queen of heaven was born on December 25.The Egyptians celebrated the birth of the son of the fertilitygoddess Isis on the same date, while ancient Arabs contended that the moon was born on December 24.The Romans celebrated Saturnalia(农神节),a feast named for Saturn, god of agriculture,on December 21,thewinter solstice in the northern hemisphere. They believed the shortest day of the year was the birthday of the sun.The Roman emperor Constantine was a member of the sun-cult(太B 日教)before converting to Christianity in 312.Some scholars suspect that Christians chose to celebrate Christs birth on December 25 to make it easier toconvert the pagan tribes(异教群体).Referring to Jesus as the“light of the world“also fit with existing paganbeliefs about the birth of the sun.The ancient return of the sun“philosophy had been replaced by the“coming ofthe son“message of Christianity.Joyful and ReligiousGradually,Christmas celebrations began to adopt the joyful, often boisterous, holiday traditions of pagancultures. The story of the nativity was told through music, art, and dance. Some Medieval Christians objected, however, maintaining that Christmas should be a somber(严肃的)religious day,not a secular(非宗教的)festival. After the Reformation, certain Protestant groups opposedChristmas celebrations.Oliver Cromwell banned them in England.King Charles II restored Christmas when heascended the throne. In the American colonies,Puritans,Baptists,Quakers(清 教 徒、浸 礼 会 教 友、教 友派教徒),andPresbyterians(长老会教友)opposed the festivities(庆典活动),while Catholics,Anglicans(Episcopalians)(天主教徒,国教徒(主教),Dutch Reformed, and Lutherans(路德教会)approved.Christmas celebrations became more common in America during the mid-1800s.The introduction ofChristmas services in Sunday schools reduced religious opposition, while the Charles Dickens novel A ChristmasCarol(查尔斯迪更斯的小说 圣诞颂歌)popularized the holiday as a family event.1 which of the following is right according to the passage?A There are four festvials for Christians.B Nobody has any doubt about the date of Chrisma.C Charistmas has been celebrated from the beginning.D When Jesus was born is controversial.2 Which of the following didnt happen on Dec25?A the son of the queen of heaven was bom B the birth of the son of the fertility goddess IsisC the birth of Jesus D the moon was born3 Why the Romans chose 12.21 to celebrate Saturnalia?A They thought it was the shortest day and the birthday of the sun.B They wants to celebrate the birthday of god of agriculture.C They did so without any reason.D Their emperor first was a member of the sun-cult then a Christian.4 We can infer from the passage that.A Christmas was a serious religious ceremony to Christians.B Everybody like Christmas because it is enjoyable.C Oliver Cromwell wanted approved the Christmas festivities.D Charistmas is now more of a famlily event than a religious ceremony.B)文章导读:奥运会捧红的,不仅有中华健儿们,还有震了全世界的开幕式导演,老谋子。时代周刊的年度人物虽然最后还是选了奥巴马,但作为候选人之一,这篇对老谋子的专文还是洋溢着对张艺谋的作品(从电影到戏剧到开幕式)、经历以及他本人的赞美和推崇的文字,盛赞之余,体现了一位大师(斯皮尔伯格)对另一位大师(老谋子)发自内心的惺惺相惜。Zhang YimouBy Steven SpielbergOn the eighth day of the eighth month of,2 billion TV viewers and thousands in attendance in the nowfamous Birds Nest were treated to an unforgettable spectacle at the opening ceremonies of the Beijing OlympicGames.Behind it all was the creative genius of Chinese film director Zhang Yimou.Drawing from the depths of thecultural heritage(文化积淀)and ingenuityQC?灵手工5)of the Chinese people, showcasing(展示)ancient Chineseinventions paper, printing, gunpowder, ceramics and the compass that have shaped civilization andchanneling the sensibility(情感)and spirit that unite his fellow 1.3 billion citizens,Zhang told Chinas story to awatching world. He created the grandest spectacle of the new millennium, and it was viewed by nearly one-thirdof the worlds population. With this work,Zhang obtained a stature shared by very few peers(同等的人).In telling Chinas story,Zhang explored the character he,or peaceful harmony-an ideal critical(重大的)to Chinese culture. This level of thematic(主题的)and creative artistry(艺术效果)is rare in the field offilmmaking. There is much legend surrounding Zhangs rise to prominence(出名),given that his first job was as afarmhand and then a laborer in a cotton mill. But the story I enjoy most is that he gave blood over a period ofmonths to earn enough money to purchase his first camera. He was 25.When the Beijing Film Academy reopenedin 1978 after the Cultural Revolution,he was 27,already considered too old to become a filmmaker and lackingmany of the necessary credits.Undaunted,he offered his portfolio of photographic works and was admitted to thedepartment of cinematography.Zhang became a filmmaker, and for the past two decades,he has inspired the worlds fascination with Chinathrough his cinematic vision. Not since Ihe greal British director Michael Powell has a director used color soeffectively to tell stories. In Red Sorghum(1987),Ju Dou(1990)and his magnum opus,Raise the Red Lantern(1991),the vivid use of red in the manufacturing of wine, the traditional wedding gown, the process of dyeing silkand even the crimson splashes of blood illuminate Zhangs celebration of life, exoticism and death.Ju Dou was thefirst Chinese film to be nominated for an Academy Award;Raise the Red Lantern was the second.Zhang also brought the actress Gong Li to prominence, casting her in starring roles in six of his films.Together they are credited with introducing sensuality and eroticism to Chinese cinema.Western audiences areprobably familiar with Zhang more from his action movies:Hero(),House of Flying Daggers()and his mostShakespearean work,Curse of the Golden Flower(),in which he choreographed giant armies in ways not seensince the heyday of the Busby Berkeley musical extravaganza.Zhang was no stranger to live theatrical events either. In 1998 he staged and directed Puccinis operaTurandot at the Forbidden City in Beijing. He directed a folk musical in and staged it outdoors on the Li River. In he mounted Tan Duns The First Emperor for New York Citys Metropolitan Opera. All this work and its complexity should have prepared me for the depth and breadth of Zhangs vision, apparent even in its early stages when he first contacted me in regarding the Beijing ceremonies. We met on asunny afternoon in East Hampton,N.Y.,and I knew immediately we were going to become good friends.Withcomputer renderings on his laptop,he showed me what he was thinking. That was when I realized that everymovie he had ever made would be a luminous precursor to what was surely going to be a personal journey ofdestiny.Zhang would be the creator-director of the Olympic ceremonies, with the honor of putting on what wouldbecome the greatest show on earth, with China at center stage.I was honored to have been one of the first peoplestirred and inspired by Zhang*s ideas. At the heart of Zhangs Olympic ceremonies was the idea that the conflict of man foretells the desire for innerpeace. This theme is one he*s explored and perfected in his films, whether they are about the lives of humblepeasants or exalted royalty. This year he captured this prevalent theme of harmony and peace, which is the spiritof the Olympic Games. In one evening of visual and emotional splendor,he educated, enlightened and entertainedus all.In doing so,Zhang secured himself a place in world history.1 Whaf not on the list of ancient Chinese inventions shown on the opening ceremony according to the passage?A paper B gunpowder C ceramics D silk2 Whats the most impornt to the Chinese culture according to the passage?A he or peaceful harmony B inventive(善于仓U 造的)talentC able and hardworing D kind and humble3 Whats the legend about Zhang5s being famous in the writers opinion?A He directed many famous film known home and abroad.B He didnt receive any education but still can be a director.C He was a farmer and poor and considered to be too old to be a director.D He made Gongli world famous.4 Whafs the meaning of the underlined sentence?A Both Michael Powell and Zhang are good at using colors to tell stories.B No one can use colors in a film as well as Zhang.C Other directors dont like use colors to tell a story.D No director can use colors as well as Powell.5 Which of the following films is Zhangs early works?A Hero B House of Flying Daggers C Curse of the Golden Flower D Red SorghumC)文章导读:新当选美国总统奥巴马当选美国 时代周刊年度人物。时代周刊为其撰文,题目为 为什么历史不能等待。下文为节选。Why History Can*t WaitYou probably sat in a fancier conference room the last time you refinanced(筹资)or heard a pitch about lifeinsurance.Theres a table, some off-brand mesh office chairs,a bookcase that looks as if it had been put togetherwith an Allen wrench and instructions in Swedish. To reach this room, you pass through a cubicle farm lightly populated by quiet young people.Either they havejust arrived or they are just leaving, because their desks are almost bare. The place has a familiar feel to it,this airof transient shabbiness and nondescriptitude. You cant quite put your finger on it.Its like the set of The Office,*someone offers.Bingo.It is here that we find Barack Obama one soul-freezingly cold December day, mentally unpacking a lot ofproblems some old, some new,all ugly that he is about to inherit as the 44th President of the United States. Most of his hours inside the presidential-transition office are spent in this room. You would think thePresident-elect a guy who draws 100,000 people to a speech in St.Louis,Mo.,who raises three-quarters of abillion dollars, who is facing the toughest first year since Franklin Roosevelts might deserve a leather chair.Maybe a credenza?A hutch? But he doesnt seem to notice.Obama is cheerfully showing his visitors around, gripping the souvenirbasketball he received from Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens, explaining a snapshot taken the day he played pickupwith the University of North Carolina hoops team.(They are so big and so fast and so strong, you know.)Then, since those two items basically exhaust the rooms decor,It is not clear that the economys bottomed out,“he begins, understatedly.nAnd so even if we take a wholehost of the right steps in terms of the economy, two years from now it may not have fully recovered.1 That worrieshim. Also Afghanistan:Were going to have to make a series of not just military but also diplomatic moves thatfully enlist Pakistan as an ally in that region, that lessen tensions between India and Pakistan, and then geteverybody focused on rooting out militancy in a terrain,a territory, that is very tough and in an enormouscountry that is one of the poorest and least developed in the world. So that,I think,is going to be a very toughsituation. And then the third thing that keeps me up at night is the issue of nuclear proliferation,1 Obama continues, sailing on through the horribles.nAnd then the final thing, just to round out my Happy List,is climate change.Allthe indicators are that this is happening faster than even the most pessimistic scientists were anticipating a coupleof years ago.*Score that as follows:one imploding(内爆的)economy, one deteriorating war in an impossible region andtwo versions of Armageddon the bang of loose nukes and the whimper of environmental collapse.Thats justfor starters;well hear the unabridged version shortly. But first, there is a bit of business to be dealt with, having to do with why you are reading this story in thismagazine at this time of the year. Its unlikely that you were surprised to see Obamas face on the cover. He hascome to dominate the public sphere so completely that it beggars belief to recall that half the people in Americahad never heard of him two years ago-that even his campaign manager(竞选经理人),wasnt sure Obama hadwhat it would take to win the election. He hit the American scene like a thunderclap, upended our politics, shattered decades of conventional wisdom and overcame centuries of the social pecking order.Understandably, you may be thinking Obama is on the cover for these big and flashy reasons:fbr ushering the country across amomentous symbolic line, fbr infusing our democracy with a new intensity of participation, for showing the worldand ourselves that our most cherished myth the one about boundless opportunity has plenty of juice left init.1 Why did the writer say“Either they have just arrived or they are just leaving,in the second paragraph?A Because there is almost nothing on their desks.B Because they will need a new office.C Because they want to leave with Obama.D Becuae the author is familiar with them.2 Which of the following is equipped in Obamas room as a decoration?A a table, some off-brand mesh office chairs B a bookcaseC a souvenir basketball and a picture of him playing basketball.D nothing3 Whats not the cruel situation Obama will face as a new president according to the passage?A Economy is falling down.B Losing control over the Nulear weapons.C Climate is changing fast.D Hist People including his campaign manager have no confidence in him.4 Which of the following is wrong according to the passage?A No other President has experienced such a tough first year as Obama.B Half of the population in America didnt know Obama two years ago.C Obama has tested and verifid the American dream.D Obama is on the cover of the magazine.二、语法填空两篇阅读下面短文,按照句子结构的语法性和上下文连贯的要求,在空格处填入一个适当的词或使用括号中词语的正确形式填空,并将答案填写在答题卡标号为31-40的相应位置上。AThis is a true story which happened in the States.A man came out of his home to admire his new truck.Tohis 31(puzzle),his three-year-old son was 32(happy)hammering dents(凹痕)into the shiny paint of thetruck. The man ran to his son, knocked him away, hammered the little boys hands into pulp(果浆汁)as 33(punish).When the father calmed down,he rushed his son to the hospital.34 the doctor tried desperately to save the
