One afternoon she set out from the coast in a small boat and was caught in a storm. Towards evening, the boat struck a rock and the girl jumped into the sea. Then she swam to the shore after spending the whole night in the water. During that time she covered a distance of eight miles. Early next morning, she saw a light ahead. She knew she was near the shore because the light was high up on the cliffs. On arriving at the shore, the girl struggled up the cliff towards the light she had seen. That was all she remembered. "as soon as"引导时间状语从句当主句用一般过去时,从句一般过去时或过去完成时。例:晚会刚一开始他就离开了。As soon as the party began/had begun , he left. (从句位于主句前后均可) 他一听到那个消息就晕倒了。He fainted as soon as he heard/had heard the news. 2. struggle up the cliff 挣扎着向峭壁上爬🌻Part 4: Grammar&Difficult points现在分词作状语1.如果现在分词的动作和主谓语的动作同时发生(伴随状语),分词用一般式,有时其前可以加上连词while或when。现在分词逻辑主语为句子的主语。例如:The students went out of the classroom, talking and laughing.Walking slowly across the grass,he shot at the lion.One day,while walking along the sands towards his boat,Crusoe saw in the sand the mark of a man's foot.2.如果现在分词的动作结束之后,谓语动词的动作才发生,现在分词应用完成式。这时分词所表示的动作有一定的持续性。Having watered the flowers(AfterWhen he had watered the flowers),he began to cut the grass.Having eaten his dinner,the boy rushed out.3.但是,如果现在分词是hear,see等表示感官的动词或是leave,arrive,turn,open等表示位置转换或情况改变的动词,现在分词所表示的动作发生后,主句的动作往往紧接着发生,那就不必用完成式,仍用一般式。例如:Hearing the footstep below(When he heard the footstep below),he rose and went to the top of the stairs.Seeing a large cake flying through the air,the driver pulled up quickly.
