    新概念英语第三册+Lesson+33+A+day+to+remember+讲义.docx

Lesson 33A day to remember🌻Part 1: TextWe have all experienced days when everything goes wrong. A day may begin well enough, but suddenly everything seems to get out of control. What invariably happens is that a great number of things choose to go wrong at precisely the same moment. It is as if a single unimportant event set up a chain of reactions. Let us suppose that you are preparing a meal and keeping an eye on the baby at the same time. The telephone rings and this marks the prelude to an unforeseen series ofcatastrophes. While you are on the phone, the baby pulls the table-cloth off the table smashing half your best crockery and cutting himself in the process. You hang up hurriedly and attend to baby, crockery, etc. Meanwhile, the meal gets burnt. As if this were not enough to reduce you to tears, your husband arrives, unexpectedly bringing three guests to dinner.Things can go wrong on a big scale as a number of people recently discovered in Parramatta, a suburb of Sydney. During the rush hour one evening two cars collided and both drivers began to argue. The woman immediately behind the two cars happened to be a learner. She suddenly got into a panic and stopped her car. This made the driver following her brake hard. His wife was sitting beside him holding a large cake. As she was thrown forward, the cake went right through the windscreen and landed on the road. Seeing a cake flying through the air, a lorry-driver who was drawing up alongside the car, pulled up all of a sudden. The lorry was loaded with empty beer bottles and hundreds of them slid off the back of the vehicle and on to the road. This led to yet another angry argument. Meanwhile, the traffic piled up behind. It took the police nearly an hour to get the traffic on the move again. In the meantime, the lorry- driver had to sweep up hundreds of broken bottles. Only two stray dogs benefited from all this confusion, for they greedily devoured what was left of the cake. It was just one of those days!🌻Part 2: New words and expression1.prelude 'prelju:d n.序幕,前奏2.unforeseen 'nf:'si:n a. 滑;回避13.stray strei a. It opened the prelude to Chinese civilization. unforeseen 'nf:'si:n a. There were many unforeseen problems. 有许多无法预料的问题foreseen 预见foresee by sthForesee by every sign that it would rain before morning. foresee sth by sthHe can foresee the weather by clouds. series 'siri:z n.系列continued series 连续的unbroken series 连续不断的TV series      电视连续剧a series of 一系列的例句;He published a new series of readers for students of English. catastrophe k'tæstrfi n. The flood was a major catastrophe to everybody. crockery 'krkri n. I have a slight accident at home and break some crockery. suburb 'sb:b n.郊区the growing suburb 不断扩展的郊区live in suburb 住在郊区例句:Blackheath is a suburb of London. They decided to move out to the suburbs. collide k'laid v. As the bus turned the corner, it collided with a van. Moving at the speed of life, we are bound to collide with each other. learner 'l:n n.初学者Good learner can use their time well. panic 'pænik n. There was a panic when the building caught fire. 2.V.使···惊慌,感到恐慌panic the audience 使观众如痴如醉panic the horses 使马受惊panic the town 震惊全城例句:The children panicked when they realized they were lost. The rain beat against the car windscreen. The car windscreen frosted over during the night. alongside 'l'said prep.在的旁边,与并排alongside of  与····相比alongside with 与 . 一起1.adv. 并排着The two ships lay alongside of each other. 2.prep. 介词The police car pulled up alongside. slide slaid v.滑;回避1.vi. 滑动;下滑;滑入slide sth into sth  溜进slide into sth 溜进slide out of sth  悄悄离开let sth slideI've just let things slide,I'm afraid. The car went into a slide on the iced road. stray strei a. It is a stray sheep. The neighbours took in a stray cat. Don't stray from the point too much. His unexpected arrival threw us into total confusion. confuse v. 使困惑,使混乱confuse sb/sth with sb/sthYou must be confusing me with someone else.greedily 'gri:dili ad. The hungry man greedily grasped the bread. greedy adj. 贪婪的begreedyfor(after,of) 渴望be greedy of office 贪图禄位例句:The roots of the plant are greedy for water. devour di'vau v.狼吞虎咽地吃devour one's heart 吞噬自己的心devour the way 兼程急进例句:The lions devoured a zebra in a short time. 🌻Part 3: Notes on the textWe have all experienced days when everything goes wrong. My car has gone wrong. A day may begin well enough, but suddenly everything seems to get out of control. You seem to have set a new trend. 2.get out of control How did that life get out of control in the first place? What invariably happens is that a great number of things choose to go wrong at precisely the same moment. It is as if a single unimportant event set up a chain of reactions. 1.what用来引导主语从句,并在从句中作主语, 相当于the thing that ." .事情/情况"What invariably happens 总是发生的事情2.at the same moment 同时(固定搭配)3.as if用法,前面讲过哦4.set up 设置,建立I set up the computer so that they could work from home. 5.a chain of 一系列,一连串的a chain of proof  一连串证据a chain of reactions  一连串的反应Let us suppose that you are preparing a meal and keeping an eye on the baby at the same time.
