John shivered as he stepped outside into the frosty winter morning. Fat snowflakes drifted down from the grey sky, soon covering the ground in a thick ,neat blanket of white. Icy gusts of wind swirled the falling snow into rolling waves that clouded his view down the frozen street. The bitter cold seized him instantly, piercing through his heavy wool coat and biting any exposed skin. He pulled his scarf up over his nose and tucked his chin down into it, seeking what little warmth he could find. His breath came out in frosty puffs that disappeared quickly in the icy air. Looking up, John saw the nearby river was completely frozen over, the glassy ice stretching off into the distance as far as he could see in an unbroken sheet of glinting white. As his fingers failed him thoroughly,John tried blowing and breathing hot air onto his stiff, numb fingers in a vain attempt to warm them as he crunched through the knee-deep snow on the sidewalk. The trees lining the street were bare and bony, their naked branches rattling together mournfully in the biting wind. As John quickened his pace, the icy chill unmercifully seeped through his woolen layers, making him shake uncontrollably. He imagined how cozy and inviting his little apartment would feel compared to this wintry outdoors. John pushed on against the needling chill of the roaring wind, feeling its sharp sting on his exposed skin. Upon reaching the coffee shop, a sigh of relief escaped him, instantly comforted by the enveloping warmth that greeted him. Stepping out of the coffee shop, John steeled himself to brave the cold. At the shelter, he was met with smiles of gratitude as he donated the warm clothing he had brought. The homeless gathered together for warmth, desperately grasping the blankets and coats to wrap them in tightly. As John headed back out into the howling, swirling snow, he picked up his pace, dreaming of the cozy and inviting warmth of his humble apartment, calling to him like a fantasy amidst the icy wasteland. Finally reaching his building, John stepped gratefully over the threshold and back into the warmth, leaving the freezing winter storm behind. As feeling returned to his extremities, he imagined sinking into his comfy armchair with a hot cup of tea to warm his stiff, icy fingers. 2.自信John awoke with composure and confidence coursing through his veins, ready to seize the day with vim and vigor. He splashed some cold water on his face, but it did little to wake him up. John stared blankly at his messy reflection, feeling like a soulless being. His friend had been unclear on the phone, just telling John to come over around 7pm and not be late. He rang the doorbell, expecting his friend to answer, but instead he was met with silence. After a few moments, he cautiously turned the doorknob and let himself inside the darkened house. Hello?"
