Passage 1My first performanceI looked out at the smiling faces packed into the school hall. Flashes from cameras lit up in all directions. The applause filled my ears. A bright smile crept upon my face. I had done it. I had really done it.Just a few months earlier, I would never have pictured myself acting in a play in front of two hundred people. But when the time came, I got up on stage and faced one of my greatest fears-and proved I could do more than I ever gave myself credit for. I found a new person inside me, a much more daring, outgoing person who had been hidden all along, just waiting for the opportunity to appear. If not for my teacher, Mrs. Sather, I might never have found that opportunity. In the first and second grade, I was extremely shy. I had friends, but it just wasn't in my personality to be very outgoing, even when I knew someone well. I was afraid I would do or say something wrong, so usually I just smiled and listened to other people's conversations. I did well in school and I loved to write. However, I would escape into my writing, where I could be myself and never had to worry about what other people thought of me. In my stories, I was never shy.My teacher, Mrs. Sather, always encouraged me to write more. She told our class to chase after our dreams and dig in with both hands. I think she was one of the first people to see my inner strength. One day, she announced that our class was going to perform a play she had written." Fil begin to cast (分酉己角色)everyone tomorrow" she said.1' I need someone who is not afraid to be on stage in front of the public to play the lead part of Dorothy. Anybody want to try?n A few excited hands shot up-mine, of course, was not one of them-and Mrs. Sather smiled/1 Well talk more about it tomorrow/ she said. Then the bell rang and my classmates slowly left the classroom. When I was loading up my backpack, Mrs. Sather asked me to go to her. Totally at a loss, I staggered towards her, an upsurge of confuse welling up from the bottom of my heart. A comforting smile spreading over Mrs. Sather's face, she crouched down, asking gently, "Why didn!t you raise your hand? I drooped my head, replying timidly. 'Tm too shy. I'm afraid of being on the stage in front of the public." Eyebrows knitted into a frown, she encouraged me in a determined tune/6It!s an opportunity for you to show yourself. I know you're great, and you're just the right person to play Dorothy in my heart." My mind was spinning fast. Mrs Sather , whom I loved and admired, believed in me! I realized it was time to throw off my shy cloak to prove that I could bring out the best in my self in public. After seconds of hesitation, I nodded my head. Mrs Sather lit up with a big smile appearing on her face.Fast-forward through five months of practicing, we were ready. Time flying away in rosy wings, then finally came the time when I could prove myself ! A complex mixture of feelings stirring my heart, I forced myself to puff my chest, body quivering and hands sweating. Everyone glued their eyes to me and I felt asif the world were spinning around me. Fortunately, after what seemed to be a century, I completed my performance perfectly. Thunderous applause flooding out the school hall, I knew I did it, happy tears trickling down my cheeks like a broken string of beads. Thanks to Mrs.Sather, she changed my life. I was not shy anymore and become confident and outgoing from then on.Taskl: List some vivid expressions to show nervousness and sadness.nervousnesshappinessTask2: Present various vivid actions to encourage people.拍拍某人的肩膀/后背一.把某人抱在怀里sb用手指抚摸着的头发 温柔地凝视着某人her gently.温暖坚定地看着某人.弯下腰,看着某人的眼睛.弯下腰握住某人的手_Passage 2Emily White's StoryEmily White was born seventeen years ago with so many birth problems in herbody. Some of her organs, bones and muscles were out of shape. No one expected her to survive. She did make it but with her strange body figure, everyone could recognize her, even from a distance. In Emily White's hometown, there was a yearly outdoor performance in the school auditorium(礼堂).It had been performed for so many years and actually had become one of the most important events of the Christmas season for many of the town*s people. Many people tried out each year for it, but so many were turned away. It can only include the most excellent people in the field.Emily had a beautiful singing voice. Last year she went to Mrs. Owens- her music teacher to ask to join in the performance. Without letting her sing, Mrs. Owens took a look at Amyrs body and said, "Child, you just don't fit. Everyone would stare at you and that would make you uncomfortable. It would make them uncomfortable, too.”©Without singing a single note, Emily was sent back through the door of the choral room. Hurt and upset, she decided never to try out again. But Mrs. Owens then retired. This year, there came a new music teacher, Mr. Buttler. He heard about Emily and suggested that she have a try.Emily didn't want to be rejected again, so she hesitated a little about it. As Emily struggled, the door was pushed open and Mr. Buttler called, "Emily, youfre next.” Although kind of nervous, Emily did as Mr. Buttler told her to do. Mr. Buttler sat by the piano to keep Emily company. When Emily finished her testing performance, she thanked Mr. Buttler and knew the result would be posted on the door of the choral room the next day.Emily couldn't sleep that night. She was suffering from the feelings that she didn*t fit and the great need to be accepted. By the next morning, her stomach was even in pain because of stress.Paragraph 1The next day, Emily nervously glanced at the list on the door of the choral room.Paragraph 2Finally, the day of performance came.Task3: Design and enrich the plot.Para 1.
