together." Although the studies led by Navajas have limitations and many questions remain the potential implications for group discussion and decision-making are enormous可推断出,作者对Navajas研究持赞许和支持的态度。 On March 7, 1907, the English statistician Francis Galton published a paper which illustrated what has come to be known as the Hwisdom of crowds" effect. The experiment of estimation he conducted showed that in some cases, the average of a large number of independent estimates could be quite accurate. This effect capitalizes on the fact that when people make errors , those errors aren't always the same. Some people will tend to overestimate, and come to underestimate. When enough of these errors are averaged together, they cancel each other out, resulting in a more accurate estimate .If people are similar and tend to make the same errors, then their errors won't cancel each other out. In more technical terms, the wisdom of crowds requires that people's estimates be independent. If for whatever reasons, people's errors become correlated or dependent, the accuracy of the estimate will go down. But a new study led by Joaquin Navajas offered an interesting twist (转折)on this classic phenomenon. The key finding of the study was that when crowds were further divided into smaller groups that were allowed to have a discussion, the averages from these groups were more accurate than those from an equal number of independent individuals. For instance, the average obtained from the estimates of four discussion groups of fivewas significantly more accurate than the average obtained from 20 independent individuals. In a follow-up study with 100 university students, the researchers tried to get a better sense of what the group members actually did in their discussion. Did they tend to go with those most confident about their estimates? Did they follow those least willing to change their minds? This happened some of the time, but it wasn7 t the dominant response. Most frequently, the groups reported that they Hshared arguments and reasoned together." Somehow, these arguments and reasoning resulted in a global reduction in error.Although the studies led by Navajas have limitations and many questions remain the potential implications for group discussion and decision-making are enormous. What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly ?A. The methods of estimation.B. The underlying logic of the effect.C. The causes of people's errors.D. The design of Galton's experiment.13. Navajas1 study found that the average accuracy could increase even if.A. the crowds were relatively smallB. there were occasional underestimatesC. individuals did not communicateD. estimates were not fully independent14. What did the follow-up study focus on?A. The size of the groups.B. The dominant members.C. The discussion process.D. The individual estimates.15. What is the author's attitude toward Navajas1 studies?A. Unclear.B. Dismissive.C. Doubtful.D. Approving. accurate ( adj. follow-up( n. 1 On March 7Z1907, the English statistician Francis Galton published a paper which illustrated what has come to be known as the "wisdom of crowds11 effect. 主句的主语为the English statistician Francis Galton ,谓语为published ,宾语为a papero从句为限制性 定语从句 which illustrated what has come to be known as the "wisdom of crowds11 effect,修饰先行词 a paper,其中 which 为关 系代词,在从句中作主语,illustrated作谓语,what has come to be known as the "wisdom of crowds" effect作宾语,宾语是由名词性 从句充当的。 2 : The experiment of estimation he conducted showed that in some cases, the average of a large number of independent estimates could be quite accurate. 主句的主语为The experiment of estimation ,谓语为showed ,从句 that in some cases, the average of a large number of independent estimates could be quite accurate. he conducted是限制性定语从句,修饰主句主语 The experiment of estimationo在宾语从句中,the average of a large number of independent estimates 作主语 zcould be7(乍i胃语, quite accurate作表语,in some cases作状语。 3 : This effect capitalizes on the fact that when people make errors , those errors aren't always the same. This effect为主句主语,capitalizes on(意 为"利用)为主句谓语,the fact为主句宾语。主句宾语中包含了同 位语从句 that when people make errors , those errors aren*t always the same. 4 The key finding of the study was that when crowds were further divided into smaller groups that were allowed to have a discussion, the averages from these groups were more accurate than those from an equal number of independent individuals. The key finding of the study zwas 为系动词,that when crowds were further divided into.an equal number of independent individuals. 5 : In a follow-up study with 100 university students, the researchers tried to get a better sense of what the group members actually did in their discussion. 主句的主语为the researchers ,谓语 为 tried to get, a better sense of. did in their discussion 为宾语; 在宾语中包含了一个名词性从句,与。 (Independent estimates could be quite accurate.) ("Shared arguments and reasoned together."resulted in a global reduction in error.) (The averages from these groups were more accurate.)(四)题干中的深层题多而难度增加。 Some people will tend to overestimate, and come to underestimate/ 句和“If people are similar and tend to make the same errors, then their errors won't cancel each other out." 根据第三段中的 "when crowds were further divided into smaller groups ,the averages from these groups were more accurate than.independent individuals,/一句和 "In more technical terms, the wisdom of crowds requires that people's estimates be independent."一句以及"the average obtained from the estimates of four discussion groups of five was significantly more accurate." 从第四段中"the researchers tried to get a better sense of what the group members actually did in their discussion"和"Most frequently, the groups reported that they "shared arguments and reasoned
