He didnt have the parts and equipment that he saw in the books illustrations, and he couldnt buy them. So he l

15、ooked for parts in junkyards. He explains, “I found a tractor fan, a car springs, plastic pipes and a bicycle frame. Using these, I was able to build my machine.” William changed and improved his design little by little. First, the windmill powered only one lightbulb. Eventually, it powered four lig

26、leaks into the gaps (travelling to work, housework, exercise) that you might previously have used to be alone with your thoughts. Podcasts improve my daily life immensely and Ive zero intention of abandoning them; but Bergman draws attention to an important truth about the content we continuously co

27、nsume: its quite possible to get addicted to stuff that seems educational and intellectual, as well as to brainless nonsense. Indeed, for a certain kind of person, its probably easier. You know its a distraction (分心) to frequently seek updates on the latest reality TV shows or pop music programs. It

28、s harder to remember that political news, or fascinating tales of science ,might be serving the same distracting function. The point is that what makes something a distraction isnt necessarily that its stupid or silly. Its the role its playing in your life. If its helping you switch off your brain,

Seemingly productive work can easily be a distraction, if its not the work that counts. Even deeply meaningful activities can be distractions. Thats the logic
