He was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. Both his father and grandfather were ministers. His mother was a schoolteacher who
2、 taught him how to read before he went to school. Young Martin was an excellent student in school. He skipped grades in both elementary school and high school. He enjoyed reading books, singing, riding a bicycle, and playing football and baseball. Martin entered Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia
3、, when he was only 15 years old. Martin experienced racism early in life. He decided to do something to make the world a better and fairer place. After graduating from college and getting married, Dr King became a minister and moved to Alabama. During the 1950s, Dr King became active in the movement
4、 for civil rights and racial equality. He participated in the Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott and many other peaceful demonstrations(示威游行)that protested the unfair treatment of African-Americans. He was arrested more than twenty times and attacked at least four times in his life. He was named Man o
5、f the Year by Time magazine in 1963, and became not only the symbolic leader of American blacks but also a world figure. Andrea Amati built his violins in Cremona, Italy where he and his sons would also teach some of the worlds finest violin makers.

Over the next 100 years the violin had become a very popular instrument throughout all of Europe. The construction and art of building violins reached its peak(顶峰)in the 1600s with the two most f
14、amous violin makers, the Guarneri and the Stradivari family. They were both in Cremona, Italy and both learned from the Amati school of the violin making. Their musical instruments are still considered the best ever made. A Stradivari violin, nickname The Hammer, sold for $ 3. 5 million in 2006. Ove
15、r the years the violin has gone through changes of design to end up with todays construction. The first violins had shorter and thicker necks.
