Tuition fees in the UK have now reached 9,250 a y

Fortunately there are a number of countries where universities offer degree programmes entirely in English, alone with the chance to learn the local language while you live there. Here are three of the options broken down in d

University of Amsterdam The Dutch capital is not a cheap city to live in, but standard tuition fees of 1,800 a year make it significantly cheaper than a British degree at 37,400 for three years all in. There are 14 bachelors degrees on offer that are taught in English, including Political Sci
12、ence, Economics & Business Economics and Actuarial Science. Nearly all Dutch people speak English, making it an easy country to get by in. Tianjin University Moving to China is not for the faint hearted. Undergraduate degree courses at Tianjin last four years, but the total cost, at 28,800, is still
13、 around half the cost of a three-year degree in Britain. Living costs are only around 400 a month and tuition fees are 2,300 a year. Flights will cost 3,600 over the four years. Tianjin is one of the worlds latest cities and is only a half-hour train ride from Beijing. Three undergraduate programmes
14、 are offered in English: Chemical Engineering, Environment & Energy and Pharmaceutical Science(制药学). University of Milan The University of Milans fees range from 140 to 3,650 a year. The one bachelors degree offered entirely in English Political Science is a three-year course. While living costs in

17、n Kenya for a film. We set off early for a distant water hole. When we got there, a huge elephant covered with dry mud was drinking calmly and deeply. He might have travelled 50km to reach the water. He wasnt going to hurry then. Hed drink a while and rest in the shade, and then drink again or so, w
18、e thought. What actually happened was that he drank deeply and stepped away. Then he suddenly fell down. Within minutes he was dead. We called the animal doctor Jeremiah Poghon immediately. He removed the head of a poisoned arrow from the elephants body, and let out over 100 liters of pus(脓) the res
19、ult of the elephants meeting with a poacher months before. Todays poacher shoots from a blind. He fires an arrow covered with poison into the body of an elephant. If the poacher is lucky, the elephant might die in an hour or two; if not, he might have to follow the elephant for days before it dies.
20、Often the arrow head fails to kill the elephant at once it doesnt mean the poison wont finally kill the elephant, but it will be slow death. Living in Tsavo through these times, I could see the results of poaching from time to time. When I think about the death of that elephant, what stays with me i
21、s extraordinary silence after the shocking sound of his body hitting the ground. I take some comfort from the knowledge that as the dead body returns to the soil, some animals will benefit, but I cant escape the feeling that with the death of such a large animal, the world seems to be a poorer and e
