2、idheretonight.Formostofthiscampaign,wewerefarbehind,andwealwaysknewourclimbwouldbesteep.Butinrecordnumbers,youcameoutandspokeupforchange.Andwithyourvoicesandyourvotes,youmadeitclearthatatthismomentinthiselectionthereissomethinghappeninginAmerica.ThereissomethinghappeningwhenmenandwomeninDesMoinesand

3、Davenport,inLebanonandConcord,comeoutinthesnowsofJanuarytowaitinlinesthatstretchblockafterblockbecausetheybelieveinwhatthiscountrycanbe.ThereissomethinghappeningwhenAmericanswhoareyounginageandinspiritwhohaveneverbeforeparticipatedinpoliticsturnoutinnumbersweveneverseenbecausetheyknowintheirheartsth

4、atthistimemustbedifferent.Thereissomethinghappeningwhenpeoplevotenotjustforthepartytheybelongtobutthehopestheyholdincommonthatwhetherwearerichorpoor,blackorwhite,LatinoorAsian;whetherwehailfromIowaorNewHampshire,Nevada,orSouthCarolina,wearereadytotakethiscountryinafundamentallynewdirection.Thatiswha

5、tshappeninginAmericarightnow.ChangeiswhatshappeninginAmerica.YoucanbethenewmajoritywhocanleadthisnationoutofalongpoliticaldarknessDemocrats,independents,andRepublicanswhoaretiredofthedivisionanddistractionthathavecloudedWashington;whoknowthatwecandisagreewithoutbeingdisagreeable;whounderstandthatifw

6、emobilizeourvoicestochallengethemoneyandinfluencethatsstoodinourwayandchallengeourselvestoreachforsomethingbetter,theresnoproblemwecantsolvenodestinywecannotfulfill.OurnewAmericanmajoritycanendtheoutrageofunaffordable,unavailablehealthcareinourtime.Wecanbringdoctorsandpatients,workersandbusinesses,D

7、emocratsandRepublicanstogether;andwecantellthedrugandinsuranceindustrythatwhiletheyllgetaseatatthetable,theydontgettobuyeverychair.Notthistime.Notnow.Ournewmajoritycanendthetaxbreaksforcorporationsthatshipourjobsoverseasandputamiddle-classtaxcutintothepocketsoftheworkingAmericanswhodeserveit.Wecanst

8、opsendingourchildrentoschoolswithcorridorsofshameandstartputtingthemonapathwaytosuccess.Wecanstoptalkingabouthowgreatteachersareandstartrewardingthemfortheirgreatness.Wecandothiswithournewmajority.Wecanharnesstheingenuityoffarmersandscientists,citizensandentrepreneurs,tofreethisnationfromthetyrannyo

9、foilandsaveourplanetfromapointofnoreturn.AndwhenIamPresident,wewillendthiswarinIraqandbringourtroopshome;wewillfinishthejobagainstAlQaedainAfghanistan;wewillcareforourveterans;wewillrestoreourmoralstandingintheworld;andwewillneveruse9/11asawaytoscareupvotes,becauseitisnotatactictowinanelection,itisa

10、challengethatshoulduniteAmericaandtheworldagainstthecommonthreatsofthetwenty-firstcentury:terrorismandnuclearweapons;climatechangeandpoverty;genocideanddisease.Allofthecandidatesinthisracesharethesegoals.Allhavegoodideas.Andallarepatriotswhoservethiscountryhonorably.Butthereasonourcampaignhasalwaysb

11、eendifferentisbecauseitsnotjustaboutwhatIwilldoasPresident,itsalsoaboutwhatyou,thepeoplewholovethiscountry,candotochangeit.Thatswhytonightbelongstoyou.Itbelongstotheorganizersandthevolunteersandthestaffwhobelievedinourimprobablejourneyandralliedsomanyotherstojoin.Weknowthebattleaheadwillbelong,butal

12、waysrememberthatnomatterwhatobstaclesstandinourway,nothingcanwithstandthepowerofmillionsofvoicescallingforchange.Wehavebeentoldwecannotdothisbyachorusofcynicswhowillonlygrowlouderandmoredissonantintheweekstocome.Wevebeenaskedtopauseforarealitycheck.Wevebeenwarnedagainstofferingthepeopleofthisnationf

13、alsehope.ButintheunlikelystorythatisAmerica,therehasneverbeenanythingfalseabouthope.Forwhenwehavefaceddownimpossibleodds;whenwevebeentoldthatwerenotready,orthatweshouldnttry,orthatwecant,generationsofAmericanshaverespondedwithasimplecreedthatsumsupthespiritofapeople.Yeswecan.Itwasacreedwrittenintoth

14、efoundingdocumentsthatdeclaredthedestinyofanation.Yeswecan.Itwaswhisperedbyslavesandabolitionistsastheyblazedatrailtowardfreedomthroughthedarkestofnights.Yeswecan.Itwassungbyimmigrantsastheystruckoutfromdistantshoresandpioneerswhopushedwestwardagainstanunforgivingwilderness.Yeswecan.Itwasthecallofwo

15、rkerswhoorganized;womenwhoreachedfortheballot;aPresidentwhochosethemoonasournewfrontier;andaKingwhotookustothemountaintopandpointedthewaytothePromisedLand.Yeswecantojusticeandequality.Yeswecantoopportunityandprosperity.Yeswecanhealthisnation.Yeswecanrepairthisworld.Yeswecan.Andsotomorrow,aswetakethi

16、scampaignsouthandwest,aswelearnthatthestrugglesofthetextileworkerinSpartanburgarenotsodifferentthantheplightofthedishwasherinLasVegas;thatthehopesofthelittlegirlwhogoestoacrumblingschoolinDillonarethesameasthedreamsoftheboywholearnsonthestreetsofLA;wewillrememberthatthereissomethinghappeninginAmerica:thatwearenotasdividedasourpoliticssuggests;thatweareonepeople;weareonenation;andtogether,wewillbeginthenextgreatchapterinAmericasstorywiththreewordsthatwillringfromcoasttocoast;fromseatoshiningsea.Yes.We.Can.
