2、e to go, depending on my mood. Today though, Im going to tell you about a special place near to where I live. I will explain where it is and how I get there. I will try and describe what it looks like and explain why I like the location so much. I am lucky, although I live in a city, from my house I

3、 can walk to the edges of the Peak District, which is a beautiful national park just a few miles from the city centre. To get to the national park I have to walk from my house down some local roads, and up a steep hill past some allotments. After about a mile or so striding out away from the urban a

4、reas, I get to a lovely bit of woodland which has a public footpath you can follow on wards and upwards. It can be a bit of a scramble towards the end of the path as it is very steep indeed, but eventually, you leave the woodland and are on the edge of open farmland. Another footpath crosses some sh

5、eep-filled fields, and finally, you are on the moors of the Peak District. It is really spectacular. The Peak District can be a really wild place, with its vast expanses of open moorland. You are high up, and it is quite exposed so it can be very windy and cold even in the summer. There are rocky ou

6、tcrops and strange configurations of stones that have been weathered by centuries of wind and rain to create dramatic shapes. Some boulders are in piles, and there are steep vertical cliffs too. The area attracts lots of people who like walking, climbing and bouldering because of its unique and beau

7、tiful landscape. Everywhere is dark wet peat underfoot and lots of heathers. This is a low growing plant that flowers at the end of the summer turning the whole landscape purple. The park covers a huge area, I think around 555 square miles, so the terrain differs from area to area, of course, I am b

8、iased, but I believe I live near the most remarkably beautiful part. I love this place, because if ever I am feeling down, or a bit enclosed, in just an hours walk I can find myself in a deserted but picturesque place, where the elements are more extreme. In winter rain and wind can batter you, but

9、in summer the sky seems to go on forever. Every day is different up there, and every hour of every day too. The area is so huge, that often you can have it all to yourself, of course, there are other walkers about, but you can quickly disappear in the vastness of the space. The people who live in Sh

10、effield, like me, are very proud that we are so near to the Peak District National Park, and it is no surprise it became the United Kingdom's first national park on 17 April 1951. We didnt do a lot of arts and crafts when I was at school, so when we did it was a big deal. When youre a kid, glue and paint ismuch more interesting than numbers and books, so it really sticks

12、 in your mind. I remember one year, I was in primary school, so I must have been six or seven years old. It was Mothers Day and my teacher told us we would make a greeting card for our mum to say thank you to her for raising us and to show that we loved her. My memory is a little hazy, but I can sti

13、ll recall using the special scissors that you have in school, the ones that are extra safe so that children do not hurt themselves when they try to cut something. We also had the sticks of glue that you have to twist the bottom to get the sticky part. I cut a big heart out of some red paper and stuc

14、k it on to a yellow piece of card, then I covered it in glue and poured sparkly stuff all over it.Looking back it seems a bit over the top, but when youre a child the more the better! Inside I wrote, “I love you, mummy” and drew a very bad picture of me. Like I said, when youre a kid you are always

15、excited to make things and get messy with paint and glue. But because it was for my mum I was extra pumped up and wanted to make her the most beautiful card ever! I would say Im not generally a fussy eater and Im willing to try pretty much anything. I like food from all over the world, whe

17、ther its spicy curries from India or delicious pasta dishes from Italy. Unfortunately, while Im very good at eating food, Im not so great at cooking it! I can cook basic food, but my culinary skills are certainly nothing to write home about. I used to watch my mum cook at home, but not a lot of her

18、talent rubbed off on me. Nevertheless, it sparked my interest in cooking and food in general. I guess I could learn how be a better cook by reading a recipe book or watching cookery programmes on TV, but to be honest I think Id be better off going to lessons. Once Ive picked up the basics I can alwa

19、ys try using a book at home, but to start I think I should have a teacher telling me what to do. One thing I love to be able to do is cook an Indian curry from scratch. The best curries are always cooked without using a jar of sauce, but it requires a lot of different spices and you need to know how to use them. I think it would be great to be a better cook as cooking can be very therapeutic and relaxing. Besides, everyone loves a good cook and its helpful to impress members of the opposite sex!
