It took studying the aesthetics in photos taken by my friends and knowing something wasnt quite right. Its a lack of p

2、ride you know would be there if you were just prettier, or sexier. Its that you simply know that no matter what you do, sans literal plastic surgery, you will never belong to a certain club. But here is where I throw you a curve ball: my being unattractive hasnt stopped me from living the other side

3、s life. Most people never figure out how to navigate this world I live in. I will just tell you I rejected the rules of the beautiful, and learned how to make them work for me. I decided I would shoot out of my league. I made friends and dated people I shouldnt be allowed to date. I stepped over the

4、 line. I surrounded myself with individuals who are more educated, prettier or smarter than me, even in the face of people saying, quite literally, “they are out of your league.” I may not technically be the smartest or most beautiful person, but I run with those who are. I become by association, ev

5、en a touch of such, even at a lower rank beautiful. I buck the system. To do so, yes, means you may be painfully aware of what you are and will never be. You will be defined by what you have the nerve to aim at being. In doing so, you will challenge and question what smart is. You will not be generi

6、c, or predictable. Attractive is only what we define it to be. Dont pigeonhole yourself so quickly. Live the life you want to live even if you didnt win the genetic lottery. 关于人生的英文美文2 When I was seven years old, I would put my school book bag on both my shoulders and had it sit plumb in the middle

7、of my back, as backpacks were made to do. One morning, when it was so frigid outside you could barely muster getting out of bed, my older brother joined me at the bus stop, and told me I was wearing my backpack wrong. He grabbed it, tossed it over my right shoulder with both straps on the same side

8、and said, “There, thats better.” Then he said, “Youre not pretty, so you have to try harder. OK?” I stayed smiling because even at a young age, I understood the importance of pretending to not have emotions. In my household, it was a matter of survival. But what he said crushed me. Soon thereafter,

9、I started picking up on the signs one receives when they arent attractive. This was made more complicated because I had a lot of friends and people who, for the most part, liked me. I was good at sports. I had various musical talents and up until life completely fell apart at home, I was a good stud

10、ent. I was also a fighter so people didnt dare make fun of me overtly, at least before growth spurts kicked in and the playing field was still even. Mostly, I paid for not being conventionally attractive by being ignored or not included in “moments” the many moments attractive people experience. Man

11、y times, I walked into a room with all of my friends and witnessed them receiving compliments everyone except me. Its not that people look at you say, “My god, youre incredibly ugly. Tell me, how do you not kill yourself?” Its how you can stand next to an attractive person and the people around you,

12、 even the unattractive ones themselves, will say, “Wow, your friend is pretty. Look at her, have you ever seen a girl so pretty?” 关于人生的英文美文3 “Joe, did you book your ticket yet?” I asked. “No. I changed my mind. Im not going to go.” “What? You arent going to Australia? Weve been planning this vacatio

13、n for months!” “Yeah, I dont feel like it. Well go some other time.” Over the coming weeks, I attempted to get my friend to reconsider, but to no avail. When Joe changed his mind, he changed his mind. Our trip to Australia our big post-college adventure was off. And none of my friends wanted to repl

14、ace him. If I wanted to travel, it would have to be on my own. Its a pattern that has repeated itself over the years. While a few people have joined me along the way. But when it comes down to the wire, something always comes up, theyre suddenly too busy, or they get cold feet and change their mind.

15、 Its taught me that if I wait for others, Ill never go anywhere. But there are places I want to go, people to see, experiences to have, and food to try and only so much time to accomplish it all. So I refuse to wait I wont let others keep me from realizing my dreams. It can bescary traveling alone e

16、specially when youve never done it before. But, to me, growing old without experiencing everything you want from life is scarier. If youve been putting off a trip because youre waiting for someone to go with stop. Just go. Dont let others hold you back from your dreams. Trust me, along the way youll

17、 make plenty of friends from other solo travelers who thought “Screw it, if I dont go, Ill never go” to locals interested in meeting new people. Youre never alone when you travel. More than that, solo travel gives you ultimate freedom. You wake up and its just you what you want, where you want, when

18、 you want. In that freedom and infinite space of possibility, you meet yourself. You hit the limits of what you like and dont like. Theres no one to pull you in any one direction or override your reasons. Want sushi? Get sushi. Want to leave? Leave. Want to try bungee jumping? Go for it. Its sink or

19、 swim and you have to learn how to survive who to trust, how to make friends, how to find your way around alone. Thats the greatest reward of solo travel the personal growth. Each time you go away, you learn to become a little more independent, confident, and in tune with your emotions and desires.

20、Solo travel is not for everyone. Some people return home soon after departing, others cry for weeks before embracing it, and some just embrace it right away. But youll never learn that if you dont travel once by yourself. Whether a weekend away, a two-week vacation or trip around the world, try it a

21、t least once. Dont wait for people or hold back from living your dreams. You could be waiting a long time until someone finally says “yes.” Theres only now and if you dont go, youll regret it. Because if I hadnt stopped waiting, Id still be in my cubicle, trying to convince Joe to go to Australia, a

The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and usedinferior material

24、s. It was an unfortunate way to end his career. When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the front-door key to the carpenter. This is your house, he said, my gift to you. What a shock! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his

25、 own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well. So it is with us. We build our lives in a distracted way, reacting rather than acting, willing to put up less than the best. At important points we do not give the job our best effort. Th

26、en with a shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built. If we had realized, we would have done it differently. Think of yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Build wi

27、sely. It is the only life you will ever build. Even if you live it for only one day more, that day deserves to be lived graciously and withdignity.
