Then she asked, “Could you drive through the downtown?”“Its not the shortest way,” I answered. “I dont mind,” she said, “Im in no hurry. Im on my way to the nursing home.” I saw her eyes shining with tears. “I dont have an
6、y family left,” she continued. “The doctor says I am too old to live alone.”I quietly turned off the meter (计程器). “What road do you want me to take?” I asked. “First, take me to Sunrise Street.
