1、A survey of the problems in the English reading among the college school students1. Introduction This paper reports an empirical study on the problems when the college students do English reading. The subjects were 40 students from Yanan University Xian Innovation College. A questionnaire was adopte

2、d as the instrument which included 5 questions. In the study, particular attention was given to the problems students usually encountered in reading. On October 11, 2012, 40 questionnaires were distributed to the subjects and all the questionnaires were collected later. I am really grateful to those

3、 students cooperation.As is known to us all, correct methods are of great help in improving reading comprehension. After the data was collected, I analyzed the data and tried to investigate into what methods the students usually use and find out the common problems in their reading.2. Results & Anal

However, the minority of students (15%) have much inte

6、table 2, it shows that a great majority of students (55%) think the practice of English reading is for the needs of examination. They have the wrong comprehension for English reading. If they have a clear and right purpose, it will be helpful to their daily practice and improve their reading ability

7、. 32.5% students hold the view that a good mastery of English reading is for the actual use. They mainly concern with the practical sides. In addition, only two students think its for the entertainment.Question 3-4: The following three questions are about whether students have right methods while re

9、k up new words and phrases when these difficulties occur. Its not a good habit while reading. From the question 4, 67.5% students read the questions first when they are doing a reading. 22.5% students read the questions and content at the same time. It shows that most students preserve a good method

11、structure of the sentence is more difficult in reading. It shows that the main goal for the reading teaching is the analysis of words and sentences. Besides, 17.5 % students regard the grammar as a trouble. Therefore, while teaching, its important to teach grammar. Finally, from this table, we can c

12、onclude that there are many barriers in reading among the middle school students.3. Conclusion Through the data analysis, we have a general understanding of the existed problems when college students do English reading. The majority of students adopt correct methods. However, there are still some st

13、udents tend to read blindly, lack of clear purposes and show little interest in it. According to these problems, I think the teacher should help students build a clear purpose, and let them have a passion for English. Besides, the teacher can help students improve their number of words through daily

14、 practice and interesting quiz. In that way, students will get a progress in English reading, so does their ability.
