1、The English Education of Primary School in ChinaAbstract: From 1920s to 1980s China begins the English education.In the early 1970s a few primary school open the English classes in some coastal city as shanghai guangdong and so on.In 9-year compulsory education published in 1992,there mentioned if s
2、chool have the condition it can open a English course at senior classes.Form 1978 the Full-time years of primary and secondary English syllabus system published ,English teaching in China have no develop in decade.From 1922 the publish of nine-year compulsory education curriculum program primary sch
3、ool start to sat the English course.English education at primary school develop fast in resent years,a lot English coursese out of school sat out to help students to get a high mark.Primary school English teaching in China still have a lot problems,the limit of teacher, teaching material, content of
4、 courses ,instructional mode and so on.Although the development of English education in China for half a century, but English teaching in primary schools nationwide began in the autumn of 2001.Set English course in primary schools is the main content in curriculum reform of basic education in our co
5、untry. English classes usually open in the third grade and above, Coastal and developed areas start from elementary grade.To popularize English teaching, Chinas current situation of primary school English teachers isnt qualified.Most primary school teachers are from secondary teachers school,and the
6、 secondary teachers school have no English major.So At present the majority of primary school English teachers without professional training.In survey,one economically developed town have 13 primary school and 38 teachers.Among the theachers only 3 are University graduates,only 11% received primary
7、school education training.Those teachers only learned junior or senior English,after a short English teaching training ,they become an English teacher in shool.Most primary school English teachers have too much workload,they teach more than 100 students and have 16-18 classes per day.The quality of
8、English classes surely can be satisfied students.Operating expenses limit couse the teachers wages are not full up to expections of graduated university students and the regular teachers.They also havent chance to have training. The teaching method is too simple and the system is rigid. Although the
9、 reformation has been advocated for several years, many school still follow the old pattern. Teacher is still the corn of the teaching process. And students are still busy with note-making in class, and with note-reciting after class. This traditional teaching method withers students zest. “Mute Eng
10、lish” becomes a common symptom.Currently, There are a hundred types English Textbooks. These materials can be divided into two categories:1, The introduction of teaching materials.The textbook may not suitable fot Chinese students.Its hard to non-native speaker. 2,compiled by Chinese this type may e
11、asy accept by students,but the English they learn must not natural English.All textbooks need students recite words and dialogs.Even native speaker dont use the dialogs appeard in the textbooks.Student learning the unuseful dialogs only for the entence examination. Mute English taught by prymary sch
12、ool teachers surly have no help for students in the future.Now adays, the textbooks are improved a lot.They learn form foreign country to have more pratical and interesting.Use dialogs and situational scenes to catch strudents interests.Pay attention on structure and practice.Use pictures ,stories,s
13、ongs and games to help understanding. Such aszoomorphized letters make students associate the prouncation, easier to remember. The little interesting cant help lightening the heavy burden of primary students.In the teaching program,primary scholl students should learn 600-700 English words and 30-40
14、 songs,students should have the ability to watch English cartoon.It may possible for 7-13 years children if theyre native English, but in China they also need to learn Chinese ,mathe and other subjects.After school, students usually have to learn instrument or others.Without doubt,students cant achi
15、eve the goal in the program made by education department.Actually,English teaching in primary school cant gain the ability of children.English as a language is a tool to communicate,a key to open a widen treasure house of the westen culture.About the English culture and customs are not mentioned eno
16、ugh in those txetbooks.In the background of Chinas examine systerm,a lot English training course out of school set up to help students to get high marks in the exams.
