In our life we have to work and live with many different kinds of people including people

4、from other countries. Communicating requires us to master each others language. So here comes a question whether you can use only one language to communicate with the most people all over the world. English is the official language of many nations in the Commonwealth of Nations and is widely underst

5、ood and used in all of them. So the spoken English is very important. Speaking is a crucial skill in English language learning. To learn oral English well, as everyone knows, an English speaking environment is necessary. If a person is thrown in such surroundings, he is surely to learn it very quick

6、ly and firmly. But it seems out of the question in the current Chinas situation. First: Become a person who likes to learn English. Interests can be the best teacher so goes a saying in China. Hence, you should first become a person who likes English. The second step is to imitate the native speaker

7、s pronunciation and intonation, try to recite some beautiful pieces. In short, that is imitateand recite. The third step to better your spoken English is to open your mind. 8、 English as a global language plays an increasingly important role in the communicating world. In our country, the demand for people who can successfully communicate in English is becoming more important as China faces ever increasing international investment opportunities and the entering of WTO. 9、nhancing the speaking and speaking components of English learning is thus strongly advocated. Students are required to learn English even in some primary schools. Yet, some students still find many difficulties in the process of learning English. Even Chinese university graduates often find themselv

10、es in embarrassing situations when they are required to speak in English or listen to native speakers, often they could not manage one fluent sentence or understand what is being said. Speaking is also an active process. It also requires the active involvement of the teacher and students. Building a

11、 communicative student-centered class might be a good way to achieve better speaking comprehension in school education, especially at college level. English is one of our main subjects .We must try our best to learn it well, or else, we may fail to get a good mark.Secondly, while tr

15、aveling around the world, we must have less trouble if we are good at English. Besides, English is used widely all over the world. For example, trading with foreigners or doing a speech on an international meeting, we should use English. Furthermore, our country has entered the WTO. We are in the gr

16、eat need of the creatures that are good at English.Generally speaking, English plays an important part now and in the future. I hope all of us can pay more attention to English and catch each chance to learn it well.Here are some examples of knowledge you can use if you know English:(1).The press. O

17、nly English-language magazines and newspapers can be bought in every part of the world. You dont have to search for Time, Newsweek, or the International Herald Tribune! (2). Science. English is the key to the world of science. In 1997, 95% of the articles in the Science Citation Index were written i

18、n English. Only about 50% of them were from English-speaking countries like the USA or Britain.(3). News reports. Watch international television networks, such as CNN International and NBC. They broadcast news much faster, and more professionally, than smaller, national networks. And you can watch t

19、hem everywhere in the world.People often ask how many words there are in the English language. Well, no one really knows. The Oxford English Dictionary lists about six hundred fifteen thousand words. Yet the many scientific words not in the dictionary could increase the number to almost one million.

20、 Visitors to the Voice of America hear people speaking more than forty different languages. Most broadcasters at VOA come from countries where these languages are spoken. International organizations such as VOA would find it impossible to operate without a second language all the people speak. The l

21、anguage that permits VOA to work is English. It is not unusual to see someone from the Mandarin Service talking to someone from the Urdu Service, both speaking English. English is becoming the common language of millions of people worldwide, helping speakers of many different languages communicate.I

22、II. Improvement of Oral EnglishAlmost every student in China chooses English as their second language. It is easy to understand. First of all, English is widely used in most international conferences and formal situations. And the most advanced nation, America, uses English as its mother tongue. Man

23、y students want to go to America for further study. They care a lot about English, taking part in all kind of English test such as TOEFL and GRE when pursuing their Bachelor or Master Degrees. But to us Chinese, learning English well is not so easy to realize although almost every students in univer

24、sity have learnt English for about ten years. The major problem is oral English that is the most important in communication, which embodies the disadvantage of current English teaching system. And most English learner is not familiar with the culture and habits of an English speaking country. In the

25、 class, what the teacher tells us is the knowledge but not the civilization. We can master the vocabulary and structure well but we are not able to construct a beautiful sentence and speak it out. We can have a high mark in all kind of exams but we failed to communicate fluently with a foreigner. In

26、 the 21st century, with the development of science and technology, can we find another way to learn English to replace the traditional one and achieve excellent result? Sure! 3.1 The First StepIt is about self listening; this is a basic factor if you hope to speak good English. Since English is a fo

27、reign language to us, how can we learn English withoutlistening? We learn any language, first we listen, use ears before anything else. So listening is primary, speaking secondary, reading and writing are equally thirdly.To a person who likes to learn English, “Interests can be the best teacher so g

28、oes a saying in China. Hence, you should first become a person who likes English. Also, enjoyment leads to better memory. If you enjoy learning English, you will spend more time on it, and you will do it regularly. A high level of motivation will also give you another advantage. It will be easier fo

29、r you to memorize new words and grammar structures. The reason is that the brain easily remembers information on a subject that you like. So enjoyment of learning gives you double benefits. Actually, learning to speak English well may be the best thing you can do to improve your life. It would be ve

30、ry fun to have access to information that other people cant get, to talk and write letters to interesting people that others cant communicate with, to impress people around you whenever you opened your mouth, and to make big jumps in your career, leaving others miles behind. 33、h TV or see theEnglish movies. You should follow the native speakers accent. only in thisway can you hope to standardize your pronunciation and intonation. Why our Chinese people are very poor in spoken English, the main reasonis we dont have an ideal language environment. Can we create a goodenviro

Many students complain that then dont have peopleto talk to, and that they dont have the time and place to talk in. 3.3 The Third StepYour spoken English is to open your mind. You can improve your oral English only throug

35、h practice. Dont think of too much grammar, when you speak. You try to speak the key words, if you cannot speak the whole sentence, but you must speak the key words clearly and correctly. Pay attention to the different rhythms between English and Chinese. We Chinese tend to stress the words equally,

36、 while the English words in the sentence tend to be stressed quite differently. The words with important information are normally stressed. Lastly, try to use your gestures and your facial expressions to go with your verbal communication.To learn oral English well, as every knows, an English speakin

37、g environment is necessary. If a person is thrown in such surroundings, he is surely to learn it very quickly and firmly. Hen we were born, no one teaches us our mother tongue on purpose, but we did master our mother tongue gradually and we never forget this skill because we live in such environment

38、 and get in touch with it in day to day life. So the shortcut to learn English is to live in an English speaking country such as USA or Britain. But it seems out of the question in the current Chinas situation. Never mind making mistakes, even if it is as ridiculous as You are a student.People often

39、 say Sorry, my poor English. with a faint sheepish smile at the corner of their mouth. Other typical apologies are: “I cannot open my mouth to speak”. I cannot find proper words. really? But they perfectly show their worry with expressive English sentences and understandable body language. In fact,

40、in most cases, the root of poor spoken English beneath all these is shyness or fear of making mistakes. So the first step to better your spoken English is to open your mind, before opening your mouth. Have you ever realized your fear may be nothing but groundless misunderstanding? Do you exactly kno

41、w what may damage a successful communication in English? To improve your oral English, actually there is no easy way to success. But there are certainly several steps you may follow to reach what youre expecting. First, overcome the barrier of fear being laughed at. Dont fear making mistakes and los

42、ing face. Second, work on the accent. Accent is so important to a language. In my opinion, the first point is Confidence. If its your first time to go to English Corner or stand on the rostrum before other students in the class of oral English, dont worry too much about your poor level. Just speak o

43、ut what you think and what you feel, loudly and clearly, because language is used to express your idea and your feeling. As to the speed, I think it must depend on whether your idea is spoken clearly, since I take it for granted that clarity is the main point in the communication. If other people ge

44、t into confusion, then, you should speak slowly until they can understand you. Following this methods, you just find some friends in English Corner or class to practice together. I think thats not too difficult to realize this if you invite others bravely and politely. A suggestion from me is still

45、the old proverb NO PAIN, NO GAIN.3.4 The Present Situation of School TeachingThere are some situations in students:(1). Try to find some partners practicing oral English together and English corner is a good place as where we may exchange English study experience, widen our sight and improve interes

46、t in English.(2). Invite your English teacher to lunch! Find a friend who also wants to improve his or her English and have lunch or dinner together speaking English of course. Speaking good English isnt difficult if you are ready to spend time on it and have more patience. In order to make it all y

47、ou have to do is conquer some 200-300 sentence patterns and about 2000 words. This is absolutely not nonsense. If you read any situational English book and try to collect all the useful words and sentence patterns from it, youll know what I am saying here is definitely correct!(3). Oral composition

48、and 3-minute training method: This method is suitable for intense training. Then listen to the composition and find out the room for improvement. Then make the same composition for two minutes for the second time and also record it. And at last repeat the above-mentioned for three minutes.(4). Find a friend or two and agree to speak English at certain regular times-after a class together, at dinner every Tuesday, or ridin
