Since ancient times the Chinese people have used more than 100 different kinds of calendars, among which the solar calendar and the l
7、unar calendar are the most widely observed. The solar ca
8、lendar is now in use in almost all countries of the world, including China. After the 1911 revolution, the solar calendar officially replaced the traditional Chinese lunar calendar. The lunar calendar was designed in close connection with agricultural production, so it is also called the farming cal

From the inscriptions on oracle bones we know that the Shang used a lunar calendar, which was combined with the solar year though the additional of a
10、n intercalary month once every few years, to make up the difference between a year of 12 lunar months and a solar year. 11、t first added at the end of the year as a 13th month , but later inserted in the middle of the year, known as “leap month .” Calendar making has since then gone though many changes and the calculations have become increasingly exact, but the lunar calendar bound to the solar year continued in use fo

It is celebrated with round dumplings made of glutinous rice flour and filled with a variety of sweet fillings, known as yuanxiao (the night of the first
21、full moon), which is also another name for the festival.3、The Dragon Boat Festival (Duanwu Jie) falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. This festival was established in commemoration of Qu Yuan, a great poet of the third century B.C. For thousands of years , the Dragon Boat Festival has bee
