1、Axwoman3.0: An Analytical Tool for Urban Morphological AnalysisAxwoman is an analytical tool based on space syntax for urban morphological analysis. It is implemented as an ArcView extension. Three functions are implemented using Avenue scripts with different interface modules: drawing with view, co

2、mputation with view and table, and analysis with table and chart. All these Avenue scripts are packed as an extension named Axwoman3.0 (Axwoman30.avx). A set of icons is created and linked to respective Avenue scripts.Three kinds of methods are implemented with the new version of extension, namely p

3、olygon-, line- and point-based approaches. The following figure illustrates the three approaches. The approaches start with spatial partition, i.e. identification of each individual geometric shape to represent small-scale space that can be perceived from a single vantage point of view. According to

4、 how the geometric shapes are interconnected or visible each other, a connectivity graph can be derived for computation of various morphological measures. Illustration on area-based (a), line-based (b) and point-based (c) space syntaxA series of analyses can be done with the extension module. Users

5、can use ArcView drawing tools to perform space partition as illustrated in the above figure. Doit tool calculates various measures from the Axial, Point or Housing map including connectivity, control value, integration, local integration, depth etc. Computed results are stored in a table correspondi

6、ng to the respective map theme. Users can explore data from different perspectives, or import observed data, e.g., pedestrian or other traffic flow rates for a cross analysis.Furthermore, local areas can be selected for analysis. For this purpose, a range of selection tools is implemented with diffe

7、rent polygon shapes. Worth noting is the softwares exploration capability. In order to conduct the analysis discussed here, a range of analytical components are provided such as axial, housing and point maps, tables, charts, and so forth. All these components are dynamically linked to each other, so
