However, asthe number of ports in thefabric increases,the

5、 numberof switches deployed also increases, and you can end up with a dramatic increase in the number ofdomain IDs (the maximum number supported is 239). This challenge becomesevenmore difficult whenadditional blade chassis are deployed in Fibre Channel networks.NPV addressesthe increasein the numbe

6、r of domain IDs neededto deploy a large number of the portsby making a fabric or module switch appear as a host to the core Fibre Channel switch, and as a FibreChannel switch to the serversin the fabric or blade switch. NPV aggregatesmultiple locally connectedN ports into oneor more external NP link

7、s, which sharesthe domain ID of the NPV core switch amongmultiple NPV switches (see Figure 13-1). 9、 Fabric Con?gurationWhile NPV is similar to N port identifier virtualization (NPIV), it does not offer exactly the samefunctionality. NPIV provides a meansto assignmultiple FC IDs to a single N port, andallows multipleapplications on the N port to usedifferent identifiers. NPIV also allows accesscon

10、trol, zoning, andportsecurity to be implemented at the application level. All the enddevices behind a server link willbe mapped to only one NP link.Internal FLOGI ParametersWhen anNPport comesup,the NPV device first logs itself in to the NPV coreswitch andsendsaFLOGIrequest

26、c name server usingthe following additional parameters:?Switch name and interface name (for example, fc1/4) of the NP port is embedded in the symbolicport name in the name server registration of the NPV device itself.?The IP address of the NPV device is registered as the IP address in the name serve

27、r registration ofthe NPV device.NoteThe BB_SCN of internal FLOGIs on NP ports is always set to zero.
