Preparing workers to compete in knowledge-based economy requires a new model of education and training, a model of lifelong learni

33、ng. A lifelong learning framework encompasses learning throughout the life cycle, from early childhood to retirement. It includes formal and informal education and training. Meanwhile, educational systems can no longer emphasize task-specific skills but must focus instead on developing learners deci

Consequently, literacy capacities need to be supplemented and updated so that individuals can deal with changing conditions and new uncertainties with confidence. The sustainability of li

Our strategy is to rejuvenate the nation through science and education, base all our endeavors on the human factor, foster a scientific concept of development, and give education a top strategic priority. Under the framework of that strategy, we are improving our nat

By the end of 2004, nine-year compulsory had covered 94% of the population, illiteracy rate among youth and middle aged had dropped to 4%, and scho

43、ol-age girls attendance rate had reached 98.9%. The thriving education for all is a major driving force behind the present-day Chinas amazing changes that have riveted the entire world. Nevertheless, national education in China is not without its difficulties. Disparities between urban and rural areas and between regions remain a stern reality. The nations foundation for education as a whole is still weak. We must keep on working hard to attain the goals of education for all.
