He would fully decorate the outside of our brick cape, including a giant tree shape made from strands (股)of colored lights that he ran from the peak of the rooftop to the ground below. 2、se lights for hours from the mess they always seemed to become in the storage box. Although no one touched the crate all year long, the strands of lights somehow managed to come out all twisted. 3、ree stood proudly in the living room. My mother would separate the branches of the artificial tree with effort and tie them together with black thread for the perfect look! The tree would then sit, dark and waiting, as the excitement around it grew each day while we counted down to Christmas. On Chr
4、istmas Eve, I could place one little toy on the tree before going to bed. While I was sleeping, Santa would come and decorate the rest of the tree before leaving presents under it. On Christmas morning, I would dash downstairs to find the tree in all its beautiful, twinkling glory! Oh, how magical C
5、hristmas was!Only a few years later, my father passed away quite suddenly, leaving my mother a suffering widow (寡妇)and me a very sad and confused teen. That year, Moms joy for Christmas was nonexistent. As Christmas Eve approached, there was no talk of putting up a tree. With moving, we no longer ha
6、d the old artificial one.I knew what needed to be done. I trudged through the snow to the woods behind our house. And then I found the most beautiful, perfectly shaped pine tree! I had found our Christmas tree.As my dog circled around me, seemingly curious as to what I was doing, I began to swing th
7、e axe at the trunk of the pine tree. While in motion, it was much heavier than I had anticipated, especially for my skinny teenage arms! But many swings later, the tree came down! With that, she gathered me up in such a warm embrace that 1 can still feel it to this day. “Thank you,

Your dad would be so proud,“ she whispered as we clung to each other.Now, almost five decades later, that holiday still holds a very special place in my heart for I was able to bring Christmas home that year for both my mother and me.
